Hi guys,

Just installed new brakes and had to bleed the brakes afterwards. Just wondering how long it takes for the brakes to stop being spongy? They currently stop me but not very well. Is this normal or do you think the brake fluid might still be aerated?

First time I've ever done this so I'm far from competent.

All replies are appreciated...well unless you call me a cvnt

They shouldnt feel spongy at all, when I bleed them on CBR or what ever the brake lever is uber firm.

In that I bleed them on each caliper then again, then shake the calipers then bleed them at the mster cylinder then if I am not in a hurry tie the lever to the bar leaving it overnight and come back in the morning and all air should be done.

I did mine t'other day after many problems. If they are spongy there is still air in the lines.

Liquid doesn't compress so if it is spongy, 99% of the time it will be air in the system.

Just make sure you are doing it right! Some people are squeezing the lever at the wrong time etc. There is a sticky about it at the top of the workshop.

if your still not getting it sorted try unbolting the caliper and moving it around freely to ge the fluid inside moving, might just have a stuck air bubble.
