OK, riding along, doing about, 40ish. I go to change down gear, but my gearlever isn't there...

I look down, and its hanging a lot lower then it should be. Had to ride home in 3rd.

Got home, can see its hanging WAY below where it should be, and isn't responding well to being clicked up/down (Clicking up usually puts it back in its normal place, but clicking down just drops it into its broken position.

Any help/ideas?

Sounds like the pinch bolt has come undone/come out. Have a look.

Yeah happened to me, the threads had gone on the lever i tried tightening the bolt but it just slipped again a week later.

I eventually got a bigger bolt and screwed it in as tight as possible, due to it being bigger it helped the rod that sticks out to grip.

It's the nut/bolt on the end(s) of the gear linkage rod. Just spin the rod clockwise to tighten it, and spin the nut(s) so that they lock up to the ends of the rod.

The end of the gear lever should be split, with a bolt running through it to pull the ends together to grip the selector spindle. Check the bolt is there and either replace or tighten it.

Ok, so I thought that we were talking about the linkage rod working itself loose. I had a similar episode after I installed my rearsets on the Blade. I forgot to tighten up the nut, and I was just slowing to pull off of the M'way when I noticed that my footpeg had become more "racy" (Razz). When I finally found a safe place to stop, the nut was literally about half a turn away from coming off completely. Now that would've been inconvenient.

Well, took the fairing off for better access to the bolt.

Got Mister 8mm spanner from my big red toolbox.

Went to tighten the bolt, but its rounded off.

What to do now?

Poke Luke, lots. Razz

Erm, try to cut a groove into the head of the bolt and use a screwdriver to remove it. Then replace said bolt.

Gonads.

Got the rounded bolt off. Although waiting was a small suprise.

The teeth on the inside of the gearlever have pretty much all gone, most of the inside is smooth as arseholes.

Looks like a trip to Honda or somewhere else is needed for a new gearlever Rolling Eyes.

S'pose I could get a new rear brake lever while I'm there too Razz.

Oh, I've got bodging skills Wink. See here Razz.

Jammy, check to see if its the same, might consider it Razz.

Zim says that he might have one spare from his NSR, so whichever works, it looks like I'll be back on the road soon. Smile
