well im looking to change up from my bandit to something that will handle commuting a bit better. I was looking at the vfr's and i am kinda stumped as to what one is the best/does the best/ best value etc etc

i will have around 2k to spend so where is my money best spent?
top nick late 90's 750?
pre vtech 800?
or fork out a couple of hundred more for the 2001+ vtech (probably with fairly high mileage)?

all opinions and advice wanted, cheers
Aaron

Get the 750 and revel in its awesomeness, it was the best of the VFR range and is still the best in terms of reliability etc.

why would anyone buy the vtech honda??
the only reason you'd buy the vfr is to have the reliability of gear driven cams, and of course the lovely v4 noise,

since the vtech is just chain driven, you are essentially just buying a bike that is excessivly complicated without the bulletproof reliability of previous models.

having worked on vfr's and vf's
i'd say through experience, that if you can possibly avoid doing work on a v4... then do it, v4 = angry mechanic Very Happy

so is that saying not to go for the vfr's full stop or just not the vtechs?
cheers

I've found my late model 750 very easy to work on. You just need to take enough bits off to get at where you need to work on.

People get frustrated because they are trying to work around things like the radiator and airbox. Take them off.

I bet I could pull the carbs off my VFR more quickly than I could on a GPZ500 and I could DEFINATELY re-fit them quicker.

yeah i read over that again, I did sound quite stupid, i just wondered what they did to 'improve' the engine that lowered the power in the newer models lol

well i think the 750 had taken my fancy more so than the 800's, and they look nicer in my opinion Smile

That's the same as mine, although mine is currently a gun-metal grey with white wheels, I really want to get the exhaust swapped to the left side (it's currently on the right infront of the wheel) so I can show off the sexy single swingarm... Costly to sort out though and means removing the centre stand. Sad

It's a pretty sexy bike. Thumbs Up

I can't really fault mine.

Yes, the exhaust needs moving to take advantage of the single sided swingarm (as standard, you have to move the exhaust to remove the rear wheel). After doing this, you can remove the wheel with four nuts. I have two wheels, one with a touring tyre for motorways, one with a sports tyre for hooning. Takes about 2 minutes to change with a high level exhaust.

Apparently the plastics are a bit of a pain on the 800s but the plugs are easier to get to due to the side mounted radiators (carbs and tappets are harder though, unless you remove the radiators). The 800 has much better, but fiddlier to work on brakes.

They're not quite as fast as a full-on sports bike but the comfort and ease of riding makes up for it. They'll carry loads of luggage and a pillion and actually handle better when loaded up. They are totally overengineered compared to anything else I've owned and a pleasure to work on (some bits are fiddly, but they come apart and go back together without breaking).

dont worry, photos will be up shortly. sold the bandit for only a £50 loss after putting on 6000 miles and some minor crash damage after having her a year! not bad i reckon.
