Looking for a tent for me and my girlfriend for our trip up north Smile Looking for something fairly simple, easy to assemble and of course, waterproof.

Seen a 4 man tent from Tesco - https://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-1790.aspx but think it might be quite big. Wanting something as small as possible.

I've got one of these for this season:

https://www.charliesdirect.co.uk/products/gelert-mongoose-2-man-person-camping-tent

Seems pretty well made and only took a couple of minutes to put up. No used in anger yet though.

Whatever you do, don't buy the cheap 2 man tent set from argos. It is undeniable the worst thing I've had to use. So much so its still in the bin bag I stuck it in after my scotland tour last may.

Cheap tents are a false economy but it does depend if you'll be using it a lot.

Halfords have an offer on their tents at the moment. 2 man and 4 man tents seem to be going at a good price.

They looked good and I have used them before and never had a problem with them. I take it you want some tents that are good value and small when it comes to packing them?

If its for 2 of you all your bike gear and other stuff maybe think about a 3 man or one with a porch for stuff.

That one from Tesco will be garbage.
Points to remember are.... get a double skin otherwise you will have condensation dripping on you all night, and better to get an outer erect first as you can erect these in the rain without the inside getting wet. Get one with a porch or you will have rain flooding in everytime you go in or out of it, it also is invaluble for storing stuff out of the way. You also want a minimum of 2,000 Hydrostatic Head other wise they will leak in heavy rain.
Buy a well known make and not cheap supermarket rubbish.

This would be a good deal for you.....
Its a 'Gelert' a well known respected make, its a 3 man so more room than a two man, its double skinned, its outer erect first, has a porch, the pack size is reasonably small, and its 2000 HH. With a bargain price of £30

I have a tent similar to this one
https://www.gelert.com/products/Nakina_Plus.aspx
Although oi is a bit small for 2 however it is very quick to put up 5-10 min one person. You can get them for £25.
Idealy you need a 3 man tent for more room.
Just make sure its easy to put up/down.

Hehe Pop up tent FTW! Takes 5 seconds to pop up and a flippen hour to put back down - was funny but its easy now.
Cheap/quick/waterproof (massive flooding last year and it lasted that)

Pop up tents are too big for a bike, Normal style are better for packing and stowing onto a bike.

Yep..... pop up tents are useless to carry on a bike, you cant strap the disc shape down and if you carry it on your back it becomes a huge sail. Also, unless you buy the expensive Decathlon one, they are all single skin whereby you get the dreaded condensation problem.

+1 is that a reasonable size for carrying on a bike? looks ideal for bike touring.

Not sure "cheap" is advisable Thumbs Down

I got the 2 man version that mainly gets used for sitting on Chesil beach (with rod "firmly"grasped Razz )

Tis all about getting a quick erection when things are already rather moist Wink

Still stays nice & firm in the worst blows Thumbs Up

I have a Tornado 3. Be wary about their claimed pack size. The tent packed is huge. If I recall correctly it's 60cm x 20cm x 20cm.

Only sleeps two people in reality and personally, I'd spend some more money and go for a lighter, smaller tent.

Wow, extremely tempted by that!!! Looks so simple to put up after a long day on the bike and then quick and easy to pack away in the morning. Wonder how big the 2-3 person one listed on ebay is for pack size though.. the one in their video looked relatively small but that wasn't the same tent??

HMmm packing size is 80cm x 20cm x 20cm... possibly a bit on the large side??

Anyone got experience of this tent? Mentions in the blurb that its ideal for biker touring .. if I fix my Africa Twin tomorrow I'm going to ride up to one of their stores to have a look at it.

Personally I wouldn't worry excessively about pack size on a bike unless you've got a pillion - but then I have twice used an 80cm disc tent Smile. Providing it's stuck on the outside, not taking up bag space, I don't see it should be a big issue.

Note that slummit also does a bit smaller model: https://www.slumit.co.uk/cub2.html
If you've got decent panniers etc, then you don't actually need that much space in the tent, though more annoying if it's wet.

If only they did a 'blackout' version, I'd be ordering as we speak!

[edit]As I've said elsewhere - for moving about every day I prefer having an easy-pack/unpack tent. Given the choice, I'll always go for one free-standing with as little pegs as possible. So, on that basis I wouldn't really like the one you linked to.

That last campingworld one looks nice, but keep an eye on the weight - 5.3kg there, getting a bit lardy.

I use a Coleman Bedrock 2, it looks very similar to that 2 man Gelert posted earlier. It's one hell of a snug fit for me and my bike kit though, you'd never get 2 people and bike/touring kit in one but if you're travelling really light you might just manage with spooning.

Pack size is 54x14x14 and 2.5kilos, fit's on the bike nicely which was my main motivation and no condensation in the morning and very quick to put up. I didn't try until my first camp stop in France and I had a couple of German bikers pitching next to me so there was some embarrasment to save, was easy as anything, up in no time.

I bough this tent at millets for a tenner
Up in 5 mins or less, can sit up in it to take your kit off, lightweight and fits in a pannier when packed away Thumbs Up

If you cant get it back to the original pack size... then you're not packing it right. All three of my tents pack down to the size they stated they were.

The Gelert i posted was a 3 man... not a 2 man tent.
I personally wouldn't use less than a 3 man, and thats when i'm camping on my own.
