ice cream gear box!

Hey people!

Right, fathers just brought a 1989 TZR 125 for £225 (£300 but it died on the way home so was refunded £75) and i have a few questions.

Firstly,
Does this look like the water and oil have mixed?

The only thing i can think of is water pump seal..

Secondly, the idle is really bad, i have turned the pilot out 1 3/4 turns and when i set the throttle stop it just simply doesn't work. One minute its to low then turn it a fraction and its singing at 5k. Also when you pull the choke out it goes up to around 3 and instantly stalls... I'm guessing its running too lean, i'm going to strip the carb any ways but will it be the float level? or a dirty jet?

With those symptoms, I'd be suspecting a head gasket failure!

Hi

Water pump seal would be my first guess as well.

Not likely to be head gasket being a 2 stroke (would need the main bearing seals to have gone as well).

Okay, so i've replaced the seal and am cleaning through now.

does anyone know why the idle is so bad?
