So I think I'm going to start going to work on my bike. Commute is about 4 miles with about 2.5 on a duel carriageway and the rest on town roads. For work I need to wear suit trousers, black shoes and a shirt.

Would you:

1. Wear bike boots, suit trousers, then shirt underneath bike jacket
2. Wear all bike gear and take work cloths in bag
3. Keep shirt in bag but wear trousers

Not the most exciting of posts, but just wondering which you would do. Thumbs Up

Best is 2

but i go for 1 when i go to college or work Laughing

guess it depend what speeds you hit, if your doing 60mhp might be best for no 2, but if you don't go over 30mph then save ya self the hassle!

Could you leave your suit etc in work?

My clothes and uni rucksack usually reek of fumes thanks to city traffic. Sick

If i were in that situation, I'd probably just commute in trousers and jacket though, option 1 i guess Thumbs Up

Mine is abit longer, but

In the summer I wear dragging jeans shirt leather jacket and have trousers in a bag, winter I wearing trousers and shirt with textiles over the top.

I wouldn;t ride with suit trousers regularly they offer 0 protection.

I'd do the suggestion from Chris, dragging jeans give you something and aren't a complete pain in the arse.

I used to do full leathers with my stuff in an f'off rucksack - but that was 140 mile round trip so really needed it.

However, you can still bin it within yards of your house. I'd do the jeans/t-shirt/bike jacket and throw your trousers/shirt/shoes on at the other end. Your dragging jeans will go into a rucksack a damnsite easier than textiles/leather trousers.

I'd love a 4 mile commute - but now i work at home most of the time so dont have any, occasionally on a sunny morning i'll just go for a ride to pretend i have a commute Laughing

I commuted 63miles to work for a while. I just wore my shirt under a textile jacket with proper textile trousers.

If I worked 4 miles away, I'd probably go for just boots, normal suit trousers (unless raining) and a light textile jacket.

Whenever I had a uniform inspecion, I'd beg/borrow my mrs' car. You'll always look crumpled.

Thats my issue, it just never works well. The mass rucksack i had helped but was never perfect.

I try and do fridays as thats a dress down day which makes it much easier, or encourage people to meet me at other sites that are more operations focused rather than sales, that way its easier to look a bit more scruffy.

No matter how hot the iron, you're still going to look crumpled by the time you've ridden 63 miles in full textiles.

Unless you want it so hot it's melted to your skin, therefore it can't move out of shape?

Keep trousers and shoes at work, put on shirt / tie and bike gear then change trousers and shoes when you get there....simples. Thats what I do as I need to wear a suit at work. Not worth the risk I dont think by ot wearing safety gear, it hurts when you come off.

My commute is a heroic 4.5 miles.

I generally wear shirt and suit trousers under textiles with proper boots. My shoes and suit jacket stay at work. I’ll wear leathers if I’m doing any more serious riding on the way, either an errand or fun.

I’m lucky to have my own private, air conditioned changing room though. Some may call it a server room, but to me it’s the place to hang my gear. Smile

In warm, dry weather I will sometimes ride with limited protective gear, but generally I go with the textile trousers and leather jacket just because it keeps the stuff underneath clean.

+1 Thumbs Up

I ride a 13 mile each way commute at the moment but it wouldn't matter how far I had to ride I would always do the same.

I wear my trousers and shirt under my textiles, leave my shoes under my desk at work.

I just take the quilted linigs out of the textile jacket and trousers in the warmer weather.

I ride a similar commute its about 4 miles, in 30 & 40 mph zones.

I always wear leathers.

I have a pair of shoes that live at work, I take my trousers to work on Monday and leave them at work until Friday.

I wear a t-shirt to ride in, when I get to work, I put on a shirt that I have put in my rucksack. (That I role carefully)

For a year or so, I did ride in my work shirt, but it got dirty around the collar and in the summer months, you sweat so much.

I do 12 miles each way, smart pants and shirt underneath textile suit. When I get to work just take the boots off at well (but then I do sit at a desk all day). Can't be bothered buying cheap shoes just to wear around work, as my desk is shared when it's not my shift and the other guy who has a similar thing (slippers) is roundly mocked about it.
