The rocker cover on a CB250RS doesn't have a gasket, just some goo. They're notorious for leaking. There's a bit of pressure behind them, its an air cooled engine, and at one point the sealant is about an inch from the two exhaust pipes.

Hylomar blue has proved useless, it's no good with heat or oil. What have you used?

I use permatex 1372 sealant, works really well. There are a few similar types.

Permabond A136 thixotropic liquid gasket.

It's a thickish liquid which turns into a solid when compressed. You can run a bead of it on or spread it out with a fingertip then wipe the excess away from the inside edge of the mating surface with a cloth. Doesn't set until assembled. Wipes off with a cloth after dismantling.

Awesome stuff and smells like red liquorice.

Could you not just get a rocker cover gasket?

Such a thing doesn't exist for the bike, it's meant to use goo.

Thanks guys, it seems that the problem is just that I've been using blue hylomar which isn't suitable for the job. Have ordered one of the recommended things.

Of course, if it doesn't work, I'll hold you responsible.

Seemed pointless starting a new thread for this so here is my hijack:

What sealant to use in here (red box in pic)? It is in addition to a rubber wedge that fills this cutout. The bike is a 2001 CBR600F.

The official answer would be "Pro-honda liquid gasket compound" at £12 per tube. Honda part number: 08CRAHLG120G.

In reality, pretty much any silicone RTV type instant gasket will be up to the job.

On the vw engines i do at work we use loctite 518 which is like a red paste that only sets once it has no air, very similar to the permabond that stinkwheel recommended just prob more expensive.
its made to join 2 metal surfaces together to be oil and air tight

Most of the above but use a paintbrush to apply it so that you keep the squeeze-out to a minimum. You want one of them small brushes with quite stiff bristles about 3/4" long.
