Anyone in the west mids help a newbie with an XL125

Hi,

new here and new to bike maintenance - think total beginner, don't know one end of a spanner from another - but very keen to learn. I'm generally a quick learner but I have a bit of a mental block over things mechanical.

Does anyone on here have the time, patience and motivation to help me out. I'm not planning on making a pain of myself but I do need to learn and I've got to start somewhere.

I know people will advise me to read the manual but I know from experience that I learn better from being around other people, watching them, asking questions and having a go.

Have owned bikes in the past, years ago, but always bought new and never got involved with fixing em, just ridin em. Different this time around, am starting all over again.

It'd be great to be in a position where I can help other people in the same boat one day Wink

Tig, you're right, there isn't a substitute for watching then doing. Thumbs Up

You'll still need a manual of sorts.

My 1st bike was an XL. Perfect for learning on.
I'm about as non mechanical as they come. Yet if i take my time, ask the right questions and follow the manual i've managed to tackle everything apart from major engine/gearbox rebuilds.

Try enrolling on a motorcycle maintenance course...maybe your local college runs one. (about £80 depending on...etc)

Needless to say, watching a good mechanic is good, watching a bad one can slow your learning and add to costs in time and cash.

There is little better than getting back from your 'testing route' and finding everything works.....Better Thumbs Up
