 |

Installed new pads today, and decided to change the rear fluid too. Big mistake. The bleed nipples have been snapped off flush.
Now, is there anything I can do without buying a new caliper? I notice that union bolts with integral nipples are available for this kind of application however, due to the design of the caliper with two seperate bleed nipples I am wondering if this will work.

Has anyone any experience of using these?
For reference this is two piston opposing caliper (one piston each side of the disc).
Forgive my ignorance. ____________________ Yamaha XJ600N |

You can use that with some messing around. If you pump the pistons out on the caliper with it removed from the disc it will partially-fill them with oil. Now lay the caliper on it's side with the oil line uppermost and squeeze the lower half piston back in. Because the air in the cylinder will be highest you'll force it into the upper cylinder. Now un-do the bleed nipple on the banjo nut and push the upper pisto in, the air will be forced back up the pipe and out of the nipple. A couple of repeats should get you a working brake.
Another option is to drill and tap a thread in the back of the caliper and use that as a bleed, capping it with a small screw and fiber washer. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

the simplest solution is a banjo bolt the kind that come with built in bleed nipples. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Right, I'll look into it. At the moment the snapped nipples are tight so no worries about leaking. I'll try one of the banjos and see how I get on - expect a 'help!' post in the next week or so

Before you buy off ebay etc. you can still drill out the broken nipple and replace with a new one. Cheaper. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |
