Hello again,

Fitted my new headunit today but the joints aren't very stiff so a strong wind or a bump could move the headlight position. From the photo below, what can i do to stiffen this up to make it harder to move. It's mainly just the joint that is marked below. I've tried to fit a metal/rubber washer but the gap is far too small, i added electrical tape which helped a bit but even that was a struggle to even get the bracket in. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Is there room to fit a thin washer between the bracket and the "arm" of the light to allow the bracket to squeeze on the arm more?
Whack a glue of some sort (araldite?) between the arm and bracket, and hope it sets solid?

I tried for a while but it was having none of it, can just about fit the bracket on with 1 layer of duct tape.

Thought about using glue & will probably go down that route. Was a bit unsure in case i needed to adjust the light.

Yeah definitely make sure it's in a position you like Very Happy

Part of me wonders about drilling a notch of some sort in it, or maybe drill a thin hole through both arm and bracket allowing you to fit a dowel of some sort in? Probably not enough room for that though

What about bending a flat metal bracket that hooks through the hole in the arm and goes around the back of the bracket, stopping the arm putting itself downwards? If you found a way of securing it at the back you could probably even do this with some wire.

file the mount a little each side? May get a washer in then.

Or make washers from foil?

Cheers guys, i'll attempt the easiest method first & have a think about some sort of bracket but if all that fails i'll get some glue.

Thumbs Up

drill and tap a small hole through the lamp bit so it binds onto the bolt.

Then cover everything in loctite

If you can get a washer in there, why not try a split / star washer - it should bite into the metal

Two 'Grub' Screws screwed into the bolt.
One in the bracket and one in the lamp 'hinge'.

You will need drill and taps though.

I'd be filing some of the shiny smooth chrome away where the light mounts, both on the light and the bracket, so there's more friction between them. And if that's not enough, star or spring washer as mentioned. And doing the bolt up bastard tight.

Thanks for the suggestions, i went down a different route & made 2 brackets (Shops sell the real headlight brackets for for £20!) from a door hinge for £3.00. Drilled the mounting holes & even one for both indicators.

Really sturdy now, i also made a custom bracket the other week for the light to sit on, so now the it's stiff as i wanted it but it's also secured to the bike better.

They did them in chrome but i wanted the half arsed custom look. Smile

Got to tidy it up & do final adjustments tomorrow.

Cheers mate. Always nice to make double sure something is secure.

Haven't had a chance to try it in the dark yet but just finished wiring it up tonight & it seems pretty bright whilst it was getting dark, maybe more so then the stock light. Specs are 'H3 12V 55W, E marked'

Thumbs Up

Keep an eye on that - looks like it's likely to wobble the light and the bolts will come loose.

Certainly will, the light base is also sitting on a bracket so if one did come loose, the other would support the light long enough for it to be corrected.
