No, not the oil sump bolt.

It's another bolt that oil drain from as well.

It's a '92 Kawasaki GT550.

I was taking the generator cover off as the gasket as leaking and I was putting a new one in since I was changing oil, filter, air filter and spark plugs.

Well I though this bolt was part of the cover (Rolling Eyes), then found out it wasn't when I took it out. Then putting it back in I didn't even do it up hard, was not far off from being hand tightened and the fucker broke on me.

Anyone enlighten me to which bolt it is please?

And how would I get the fucker out?!

As for getting it out you may be able to get a Torx in there and/or heat/ freeze and release?

No idea what it is though. Laughing

Omfg what did you do? Swing on it? You need to left hand thread it for ease but because of the nature of the bolt i don't know how much swarf will enter the engine unless you grease it up like mad and fish it all out.

Hardly. Did it up hand tight, then grabbed my socket wrench and I barely put any force on it and the fuck broke.

Left hand thread it? I have no idea what you jut said Laughing

this is probably one of the only times when considering using an easy out may be a good idea.

how big is the hole?

Looks to me like a hollow bolt.
It will be piece of piss to get out, if it's snapped while going in.

The head of the bolt is now broken off, so there is no pressure on the remains of the bolt.

An easy out will go in there no problem.

Screwdriver (maybe 4/6 point star), few taps with a hammer and may just screw out?

Ps, may not work, have no clue, just a thought haha!

As for getting that out, I reckon the screwdriver thing'll work, it can't be that tight in there

I would try getting it out with a screw driver and a hammer probably.

Guess I'll be replacing the o ring around it too. Laughing

Ah fuck it.

I'm gonna google easy out, whatever the fuck that is. I'll try the flat head + hammer, but slightly worried about damaging the thread...

Something like this?

So would be using the drill bit to drill a thread in the bolt and screwing in the thing till it tightens up and then untwist the easy out thing with the bolt?

Edit: Just read the "how to" part Rolling Eyes

Will try flat head and hammer tomorrow, if that doesn't work I'll use the easy out thing Thumbs Up

Ta people Thumbs Up

Also, will start looking for the bolt now, how the fuck am I supposed to find one?!

that shouldn't be that hard to get out. should be able to turn it by hand. i think i used a small flat bladed screwdriver to get one of the things out before.
i also glued the bolt back together with some araldite.

First off, I'd look on a microfiche and see exactly what it does - it looks like some kind of drain bolt or similar.
If you don't particularly expect to need to use it, you could consider just sticking some chemical metal over it.

Located that low down on the engine, it's got to be a drain bolt.

I did think of that... But not sure if I should do it or not...

Where can I find a microfiche for it? I've tried searching...

try cmsnl, look under the z550 (I was led to believe these 2 shared a common engine)

I've looked at a quick pic of the crank case on there, it looks like you need part number 920661096, available @ 5.50 euro Smile

double check that here ----> https://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1992-g8-z550_model12603/partslist/E1411.html

As already stated, it is NOT a drain bolt, it's the main oil gallery plug. There's likely an identical one on the other side of the engine....

Got the bolt out. Piss easy job. Didn't even need a hammer. Just uses a flat head screwdriver, sort of wedged it inside and twisted anti-clockwise. Took 10 seconds Laughing

Will be going round breakers/salvagers tomorrow. Praying

I hope I find one. A friend has an ER5 that isn't doing anything so if it fits I can nick it from that. Very Happy

I really want to ride the bike tomorrow so I can get some wheelie shots Cool

Air filter changed, spark plugs changed, oil filter changed... oil waiting to get in... Generator gasket done...
