Will these SS downpipes clean up?

Thinking of buying a system for my 400 but not sure if these pipes will clean up to look like new.

I was thinking varying grades of sandpaper and then lots of autosol:

they will clean up better but not like new but there chrome down pipes not stainless steel

there chrome pipe cos the finish has rusted!

Its basically a mild steel pipe(s) which is then electroplated using chrome metal (theres a proper name for this thou) which gives you the mirror finish when new. They go dull over time unless they are polished and cleaned regulary.

Chrome is pourus so water does get past to the base metal and rot

Stainless steel is exactly that...stainless.

Chrome rusts after a while because the steel underneath corrodes. You can probably get them looking almost new but will never be perfect and will corrode after any use in the rain or left outside.

They're always going to be rusty pipes. You could clean the rust up, but then you're going to be left with a steel area that will then just rust again.

The three options you would have are leave them as they are, spray them black, or use a bit of rust remedy to at least make the rust grey and more solid.

stainless pipes wouldn't rust like that. the rust is coming up thru the chrome plating and you will not stop it once it has started, even if you spent hours and hours cleaning them up they still wouldn't shine and would rust again as soon as they get wet

Thanks for all the replies. Thats a no no I think! (glad I asked before buying them ).

Since the Yen is so strong at the moment 130Yen to £ (use to be over 230Yen to £ occording to some website it prices out Japanese systems .

Someone on 400GB suggested Preditor (predatormotorsport.co.uk) to cut the orginal system and put a new can on with a link pipe. Do you think this will look tidy? Anyone have any photos of a system done already?

Really dont want to cut the orginal system as in great condition . But then I dont really like the sound of the orginal.
