 |
|
Hi all,
I need to sort out the rear shock on my race bike. I have seen rebuild services for £100, but I have also seen a 2008 brand new rear r1 shock for the same price. Does anyone know if the newer shock will fit my 2001 R1 without any major modification?
Thanks all, Karma given as always |

I would have thought the damping, spring and length would be totally different so I wouldn't bother.
Also try and get a good after market shock as they are far superior.
Try these people: https://www.dpsracing.co.uk/shock_servicing.php very good at rebuilding standard shocks to higher spec. ____________________ If you don't pay your exorcist you can get repossessed.

Pretty sure the 08 shock will be too long, the newer r1 had a much longer swing arm than it's earlier versions and because the swing arms on the newer ones was basically upside down the shock attached lower in the chassis.
I expect it can be done, just with some work. ____________________ Bikes owned :- 2001 nsr125, 1999 zx6r, 2006 yzf-r1, 2009 xmax 250, 2012 yzf-r1, 2015 MT-07

You'd probably be better off getting your current shock played with by someone like K-Tech, rather than swapping it for a different "bog standard" shock. ____________________
