went to start my bike today (600rr3).

Key on, fuel pump primed, dash did the swizzy thing, lights came on and all was normal. went to press the starter and all that happened was the headlight went off (normal), no turning, no clicking, nothing.

kill switch was set to run, battery is fine reading 12.5v and nothing out of the ordinary on the dash display.

If i bump it, it fires straight up Confused so that rules out immobiliser right?

any ideas?

Clutch cut out switch, side stand switch or in gear.

Thumbs Up

As above, I'd start with checking out the side stand sw connections / relay (where applicable).

i've unplugged and inspected every connector on the bike, tried with stand up, stand down, clutch in, clutch out. Also if it were that then i dont think it would bump start right?

You didn't say if you'd checked the fuse box or not.

Voltage isn't everything with a battery, it can have the volts, but not the charge. Putting the battery on charge or bump starting and going for a long ride will remove that as a possibility.

yeah all fuses checked, pretty sure the battery is fine as its virtually brand new and the bike was fine and started strong yesterday. Think tomorrows plan is to try a spare battery to be sure and stip down the r/h switchgear and bypass the starter button.

had similar on my old fzr600r, although its alot different in age,
first thing i did after the aforementioned tests were ruled out is,
bridged the starter solonoid using some amp wire, as soon as i did that a instant sound of the bike turning over...

Sounds like a fairly simple electrical issue, if the headlights are coming on and the starter relay isn't even clicking when you push the starter then it's unlikely the battery is at fault as with that much power you'd at least get the relay to work and more likely a whir from the motor.

Therefore i'd check the fuse in the starter solenoid (30amp), then if that's ok bridge the starter solenoid using 30amp wire or screwdrivers briefly just to see if it cranks it. If it does then you most likely have a problem with your starter switch or immobiliser (immobilisers often only break the starter button circuit). If it doesn't crank with the relay bridged then either the relay or the starter motor is dodgy, start by pulling the relay and testing it properly or swapping it, can't imagine there'll be anything wrong with an 03 starter motor.

all sorted Very Happy

after much prodding and poking i found there was a 3 way splice in the loom on the earth wire to the relay which corroded right through. I found it by shorting the earth connection on the relay direct to the frame which worked straight away.

so i started chasing the wire about with the multimeter set to continuity, the whole area is pretty corroded as the alarm was spliced in there and it looks to be letting moisture in, it's lasted 7 years but i would have expected a professionally fitted alarm to be spliced into the loom to a higher standard than it is Rolling Eyes .

hey ho, atleast its working again.

cheers for the help and quick replies Thumbs Up
