Finally today I got my new cylinder and piston in the post to replace my destroyed top end, don't ask....

Started installing the piston and have now kind of come to a dead end, I can't compress the fricking the circlips to get them in which are in the shape of a G rather than the stock ones which had two straight bit which were a piece of cake.

On the stock cylinder there was a kind of cut away bit so you could get some needle nose pliers in but there isn't any on these ones. Tried putting a clip in with the piston no attached to the crankshaft and still can't seem to do it.
Anyone got any tips to getting the sneaky buggers in?

The ones on my RD were shaped like a 'C' and so were nearly impossible to compress. I just used my thumb and a lot of swearing as I recall.

The 'G' ones should be a little easier with some needle nosed pliers and a lot of swearing. As Stinkwheel told me they are commonly known as "pingfukits" because that is what happens.

Heres a picture of the new piston next to old piston and the clip.
Note the pistons are exactly the same size there's just a hidden feature on my camera that makes things on the right look bigger I swear Wink

WhenI used to work on Stihl 2 stroke motors I used to find that rather than try and compress the circlip and then put it in, it was easier to poke the open end of the G shape into the groove leaving the clip at a bit of an angle towards the outside of the piston. Then cover the top of the hole with your thumb, and use a small flat blade screwdriver to pull the little tang of the G inwards.... Thumbs Up

You can just visualise the *ping* when it flies out the door into some long grass.

Those are easy. Just put the non bent end in the groove first and use a flathead screwdriver on the bent bit to push it in.

Took me about 2 seconds for each one.
