Kawasaki zx6r F3 (1997) oil leak !

Hi guys I have had a slight oil leak from one or several of the bolts at the bottom on the engine which is now dripping on the exhaust downpipes causing loads of smoke when stationary.

Any ideas what this could be? I've bought an array of sizer of copper washers which I'm going to fit on bolts that seem to be leaking, change oil, change oil filter and see if this resolves it =/

Temp gauge is all normal when riding, engine does seem overfilled on oil though perhaps on purpose as previous owner new it leaked.

Any help or ideas appreciated.

Too much oil will harm the engine and can cause leaks.

Either drain the oil and put in the right amount or just drain some out.

Ok cool, just read another threadf about some guys sump plug which the thread was knackered on, hope this isn't the problem!, im going to drain abit out now see what happens then fit fresh with filter if fixed.

that would have been me lol, is it a big bolt in the middle of the sump or one of the smaller ones around the edge of the sump?

Oh yeah hi How you getting on with it btw? get someone to helicoil it?

That's the thing I cant really tell where its coming from or if its several bolts, Im taking the sump plug out and draining the oil inamin ill see what the thread is like.

I'll give it a good clean then take it for a run see if i can see where the leak is any better

de-grease the whole area, start the bike and check for leaks.

Cheers for the replies guy, been working on it all day, found oil pressure switch was only hand tight, probably leaking, thankfully sump plug thread was fine, new washer on that and all the seals on the oil cooling rad collar as that appeared to be leaking.

New oil, new oil filter. Running sweet as a nut, NO OIL LEAK WHATSOEVER!
