Shaft drive for under £1K???

Don’t worry not thinking of sell my old Transalp.

I’m just curios if you can get a shaft drive bike for under £1k that is mechanically sound and not a bag of bolts waiting to go wrong.
The list I have is:

Honda NTV 650
Honda Deauville

Triumph Sprint

Yamaha XJ900

Kawasaki Z550

Is there anything else that should be considered being in mind it would be for a 6ft tall 18 stone bloke so customs are out.

You could get an XJ650/750 like mine but they are a bit thin on the ground. I think you will be hard pushed to find one which is in decent condition.

I'd recommend the very similar pre-Diversion XJ900. For instance this one which has 75000 miles!

It has almost 20bhp more than mine so you will easily hit redline in top. The sizes of the wheels will limit you to a choice of cross-plies, the upside of this is you can get a pair of tyres for under £100. Things to look out for are rusty exhausts and coils that pack up in mist/heavy rain, the latter being a cheap fix. Also the rear shocks might need renewing, again this is pretty cheap. FYI the one in the link has a Jama Originals exhaust which costs about £500 for the whole lot. If you find one with the original exhaust expect it to rot come winter.
