YAY !!!!! At last i have a bike again !
Been searching on ebay for bikes for a long time, but last night i took the plunge !
Texted lozzypop and she came up to give me my first pillion ride !
I've never been on the back of a bike before, but she was brilliant !
Roundabouts near abergavenny was covered in diesel...grrr !

Got to monmouth at about 7:20 ish....saw the bike, 5 min convo with the insurance company and then im hobbling home on my new baby !

Cracking if not nervous ride home, stopped off in the services on the way back just to chill for 5mins...
We got back to merthyr at 9:30pmish, so riding a new bike in the dark, diesel on roundabouts kinda made it more fun !
Plus the fact that i could not put this poxy side stand down tidy, due to the flip up thing.. looking to alter/change it now as we speak !
So cue lozzy helping me put the stand down ! lol !

Got a few little jobs to do... hey its a ducati... lol !
Front brake switch not working tidy, sidestand thingy, fuel sender/light and some odds and sods...
Going back up to monmouth on the weekend in the car to pick up all the spares..fairings,exhaust,etc...
The bodywork is a bit tired due to the age,but till i see the new fairings and get them resprayed,i'll have a better idea what to do...
BTW... i drinks petrol ! lol !!!!

First impressions..... FOOK ME !!!! its sounds brilliant ! Goes like stink !!!! Much better so far then the gsxr was !

....Sorted out the sidestand last night, jobs a good un !

Looks tidy.

It's one of the earliest ones, and a future classic I reckon. Please don't cover it in anodised tat.

Love it Cool Think I like most about them is how skinny in the middle they are. The tank is so thin!

Thumbs Up Very Happy All the niggly problems are getting ironed out !
Bought a new tank off ebay due to the bottom of the original tank had been dented and no matter how much fettling i could do it still wouldn't seal it tidy to the pump...
The final straw came when it decided to piss out a tank full of petrol in the local petrol station..

One of the main fuses kept blowing and after sickpup having a look at it for me, put it down to the regulator.
But after removing the battery box we noticed two connections where fused together because it was jammed between the battery box and the very hot engine...grrr
Replaced the wires and connections and moved them to a better postion..... but still the fuse kept popping...
Replaced the regulator...still kept popping.. grrrr !
Then i noticed the rear brake hose had rubbed off the neutral switch cover off the back of the engine, causing it to short on the brake hose !
Moved the brake hose and covered the switch...Yay !!! job done !

Still got a sticky fuel sender, but i'll replace that over christmas..for now im using the mileage counter and checking the tank most stops...lol !

Carbon tank/key protector thing coming from germany soon...
Next month hoping to get a decent open clutch cover, plate and springs set-up for it...

If you spray those wheels with rattle cans I will personally come over and murder you.

Please get them properly blasted and powder coated by people who know what they are doing, rather than doing a half assed job. Otherwise, its a nice bike. Make sure the battery is always topped up with water/electricity because I've heard you can terminally damage the starter clutch on those if you try to start it without much charge. Also I'd suggest getting the belts done if they haven't been done recently, and use the bike often once you have. The belts don't like to be stood still for long periods.

Enjoy.

Do wonder how much this is over worried about.

My father has a Monster S4 which has recently had the belts done. This is the first time they have been changed since new (9 year old bike), and it was ridden to a shop to get them done.

All the best

Keith

Did your father leave the bike alone for a while though?

Put it this way, on mileage they were nowhere near due Laughing . Poor bike hardly goes anywhere.

All the best

Welcome to the club Cool

Here's mine I got last year:

https://img207.imageshack.us/img207/292/sdc10582iii.jpg

https://img2.imageshack.us/img2/2407/sdc10586y.jpg

I've noticed a couple of things on yours and a couple of things you can sort too.

The side stand flicking up - you can buy a bracket from Ducati which replaces it in the sidestand - very easy fix. But I would maybe buy that then get a stronger one made as it was quite flimsey and mine snapped. My dad fixed me one up and had no problems since.

The other thing I noticed was the side panel graphics don't look genuine if you compare to above. I think it may of been in a crash and had the panels replaced - thus you finding a dent in the tank and the trapped wire problems. Take the panels off and see if there is any damage underneath as it may be hiding problems. The clip ons look different too (colour) but they may of just been replaced for a different choice of colour rather than a incident.

Belts are reccomended to get replaced every 2 years or 6000 miles, whichever comes first, but up to you.

Let me know if you want to know any more, like standard looking bits etc, I've read up alot to get mine to standard, the above is a old pic, but I've changed a few things to get it standard. Up to you how you want it though Wink

LOL, dont worry i'll do a pucca job i promise... since doing a full respray on the beetle i had, i take my time doing it tidy..
But will look into powder coating defiantly...
Been thinking for a while to get a small shot blasting set up to do things like this to get them ready for paint or powder coating..

Yeah as for the belts,etc... as its a high mileage the previous owner has replaced a lot of parts, including belts...

parts done....
She had new timing belts, new bearings in the tensioner wheels and idler wheels, new clutch slave cylinder, lay shaft needle roller and seal, push rod 'o' ring, clutch push rod end bearing, new friction plates, new front injector, shims done, shock absorber linkage stripped and greased, exhaust system stripped and eased, air filter cleaned, new oil and fuel filter, all hydraulic, coolant and engine oil changed, front fork oil had been previously changed by last owner, brake calipers stripped cleaned and reassembled, head race bearings tightened, new disc pads all round, new tyres and last but not least new battery and starter motor.

.....................................................

Keith/marjay...
From what i've read off the ducatisti forums they do preach on at changing the belts every two years, more so if the bike has been stood for a while.
They tell people even if you dont use the bike for a month or two, just start it up once to stop the belts forming to the shape of the rollers... theres a pic somewhere i'll dig it out...
They say the ones which go pop are the ones which dont get used that often..... hence another reason why i didnt mind a high mileage one....

.........................................................

Jefr0, Thumbs Up Thumbs Up very nice !

Yeah, im not to keen on the end bars,so they will get replaced with a black set of R+G ones.

As for internal/frame damage,it all looks good.
The last owner did put in the sale a top fairing and two side panels along with a new clear screen.
The front and one side fairing is perfect and doesnt need to be resprayed etc..
But the other fairing panel needs re-spraying as its got primer on it all ready....
Those new fairings are the proper ones with the split bottom, exactly original...the ones on the bike are fibreglass..okay, but they'll come off after the winter.

https://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p138/lilldic_mossy/DSCN1097.jpg
