hi, i want to do bike safe but im 33bhp and my bikes not restricted, will they check/ask/care?

Why not do IAM/BMF Blue Riband ride instead. They won't check and it's still advanced training.

They didn't check for me, in fact he didn't even look at my bike and told the guy I was riding with his bike was nice. Some of the other police looked more carefully at the bikes but restrictions were never mentioned.


Bikesafe is more an 'introduction to...' rather than 'advanced training' but Hams advice is solid.


If you can get yourself on one of those bikesafe/trackday events (I know they were doing one around devon at some point) then that would be the best Bikesafe day and an incredibly cheap way to get on track. (half day road/half day track for something like 30 quid).

i did my bikesafe course whilst in my 33bhp restriction.. and it wasnt restricted.

it wasnt mentioned at all.

although i did have a certificate just in case Smile

Not sure they can reasonably check, seeing that it needs a dyno truck (and your permission to put it on it) or to take your bike apart, though of course it can be restricted in a lot of different ways.
(Or possibly to ride it, of course.)

They didn't even check my licence at bikesafe. They said 'no one would be stupid enough to turn up to a police station without a legal bike or licence.' On the afternoon ride we were even told to ride as fast as we usually would on NSL roads (I didn't get much over 90 but there was no mention of it in the debrief).

I wouldn't worry about restrictions.

They're coppers. If they have reason to suspect the bike is unrestricted, then you're riding outside the conditions of your licence, can't they just seize it for riding without a licence and insurance? I can't imagine them stopping anyone and saying, "We believe your bike is unrestricted, may we have your permission to put it on a dyno?" Call me cynical...

Pretty sure they do have to ask for permission - the alternative being that they take it back to a workshop to take it apart.
Reasoning being that it's possible the stress of it being on a dyno could cause it to blow up or similar - have wondered about some switchable 'suicide' option if you had a not too expensive bike when you should be restricted Smile.

Given that you can ask for a deferred inspection if the police are simply eyeing your bike over for roadworthiness, then I don't see why not.

Believe it or not, we do have *some* rights before the police decide to seize the bike and strip/blow it up on a dyno! (Not, of course, relevant to HMRC, who will also bill you for the privilege).
