OBD II reader - what one?

It would seem I can use an OBD II reader to read the fault codes from my 675.
Might as well get one as it'd be useful for cars/vans and the like too, but on a budget at the moment, so want to go as cheaply as possible, but willing to spend a bit more for a good one.
Any recommendations?

A 'normal' ODBII cable won't work on the Triumph fuel injection IIRC. The Triumph one has a special pinout and a chip in it which handshakes with the fuel injection.

Tuneboy is the only way to get fault codes from a Triumph without using an official triumph 'gameboy'. The reason they can charge a lot of money for the software is that you need the cable for it to work...

Cheers... it seems my ebay searching was at fault last night, as I was only getting cheap cables showing up in china, but lots now in the UK.

The cheap ones only seem to do VAG cars:

I wouldn't mind using it on (BMW) car and VW van too, though I know I may need an adaptor for the car.

I shall do some further research to check on type - it might be it doesn't pump out power or something.

For the 675 why don't you just lob it into the van and run it over to bulldog to get an error code?
When my exhaust valve fell over I wasn't charged for the diagnosis just the re-visit to fix the issue.

I was told I'd be paying around £30 + van fuel and it's starting to be rather not-cheap for someone with no income.
So if I can get a code with something useful to use again in other cases, prefer to do it that way.

Was that bulldog that said 30quid? That seams a little steep for 2 seconds work. I wouldn't have thought you would even need to get the bike out of the van!

I've never known a place read fault codes for free, £30 sounds quite normal, it's a pisstake really as it's not like it takes more than 5 minutes so there's no labour and it's not for recouping the cost of the equipment either.

I always thought OBD1/2 was a standard and should read anything but typically it isn't, my Pontiac is apparently OBD 2 but nobody can read the fault codes, the plug fits but it just doesn't work, they don't charge if it doesn't work though. Some you can just use a paperclip and the code flashes up using a light on the dash, others (like mine) don't have that facility.

Yea, the GSXR you can short out two pins in a plug - some people even wire in a switch. It also lets you set the TPS sensor and possibly some other stuff.
Not on the Triumph though.

I didn't say they WILL charge £30, I said the maximum they will charge is around £30.

I reckon you should get Bendy to take it down there, flutter her eyelashes at the salesman that sold her the Sprint and you might get away with it being done for free.

The dealer I took by bike to I'd never spent anything at and never have other than the valve work that triumph ended up paying out for. Its worth the phone call at least!
