Hi all, got a prob with my xj 600, starter motor i think. plenty of battery, relay clicks, not cranking engine. When i push start button oil light comes on. Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Cheers MICK.

Try bridging the 2 main terminals on the starter relay 1 terminal will go directly to the battery and the second will go directly to the starter motor, if the starter turns over then your relay is faulty. Also check your main earth connections to the frame and engine for tightness and corrosion. Have you tried starting the bike with jump leads?

Hi radical thanks for speedy reply. Had a friend look at it, got full 12v at starter could it still be relay fault. Will check earth connection anyway.

Yes it could well be the starter relay, look forthe 2 large terminals and bridge them with a spanner or large screwdriver and see if the bike starts although my first thought would have been the battery or loose battery/earth connections.

another option would be to connect a car jump lead from your postive battery terminal directly to the starter motor terminal, this will bypass your solenoid and will also prove if your stater motor is faulty but do check all the battery/earth and starter motor connections first and also check that your battery is holding a voltage of around 13 volts with your ignition turned off.
