Hi all,
I'm looking into getting a bike at the moment, and was pretty set on getting a YBR125 for a year or so to get used to everything before upgrading. However, I sat on one yesterday, and it felt like I was sat on a tricycle; fair enough, I'm 6'4", but I don't think that's the bike for me any more....
So after looking on this forum, I've got quite besotted with the Honda Varadero 125 and have a few questions.
1 - Is it a good idea to get one if I'm only going to sell it in a year anyway? What I was originally going to lay out for a bike seems to be creeping up a fair bit (I mean I'm getting more and more dirty looks off the lass).
2 - Is 22k miles too many? I'm looking at this bike and wondering:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201029363819269/sort/priceasc/usedbikes/engine-size-bikes/70cc_to_225cc/make/honda/page/1/postcode/pr29ru/keywords/varadero/radius/30?logcode=p
Bear in mind that as a n00b I don't want it to start going skitz on me till I can learn the ropes.
3 - Are Hondas really worth the money? I think I probably already know the answer to that, but I thought I'd ask to make sure.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, oh, and i saw one on an 05 plate, 1685 miles, for 2450 quid. Is that a good deal?
Thanks in advance,
Salz |

I would say that having a bike for a year is probably the better way to do it to be honest. You get to gain the experience on a less powerful bike and hence less likely to kill yourself.

I didn't click the link but 22k miles is perfectly acceptable if it's been probably looked after. The engine isn't a very high-revving engine either.

Yes, they are very reliable.

I would say so yes.
Thanks in advance,

All just my opinion though. It's the kind of bike you could go 60MPH on all day every day and be comfortable. It's supposed to be a comfortable bike as well, a great bike to learn on. You are learning, right? You could definitely do it cheaper if money is a big concern though. ____________________ will never give up his CG. ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston? |

Hey Rapdude, bear in mind I'm a noob
I'm guessing you think it is expensive for the year - but the mileage is pretty low though? |

I had one it was my first bike am 6ft 3 and tbh it was the right bike for me, kept mine for over a year and a bit if my memory is right. I used mine to commute through Glasgow and it was perfect, nice riding position, see over cars, a big bike so moving up to a CBR 600FY did not feel heavy just an increase of power. They are expensive and hold their value fairly well unless you buy from new.
I would recommend it as a first bike to learn on if your over 6ft and not a skinny fecker.  ____________________ Current: 2019 Yamaha T7 -> 2015 KTM Superduke R | 2000 Yamaha R1 Past -> 2009 KTM 990 SM -> 2005 kawasaki ZX10r -> 2000 Honda CBR 600 FY -> 2002 Honda XLV 125 Varadero

A five year old bike with low mileage, I would assume that its been well cared for and only ridden in nice weather so probably well looked after.... On the flipside it could have been standing for months without being ridden....
Its entirely up to you, personally I would say its worth a butchers as everyone I know who has owned a Varadero has said that they are sound bikes (if a little pricey). If its a private sale you may be able to haggle and knock a few hundred off. Plus when you come to sell it on you get your money or deposit for a big bike sorted. ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10

If you fancy a 70 mile jaunt along the A6 (I assume you're in Preston ) then there's a nice low mileage '08 Varadero (with top box) in Penrith Motorcycles. Saw it the other day when I popped in for a battery charger. ____________________ Bikes: GZ125>CBR125>Yamaha MT03>Triumph Sprint ST 955i

Thanks for the info everyone, much appreciated.
Gonna go look at the 2005 one at the weekend with someone who knows about bikes, getting quite excited
That one for £780 looks like a right bargain, wish that it was a bit closer to me up here in the People's Republic of Prestonia (how did you know that Capt Castle?).
Will be back with loads more questions soon
