https://www.independent.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00023/jolymain_23751g.jpg

A friend of mine has just informed me that she is going to be a traffic warden, and I almost instantly lost all respect for her and couldn't contain my impulse to let her know what I thought about her decision. It was involuntary outburst that made me think...

...What would it take for me to become a traffic warden?

£40,000 a year might do it. But I would still feel like an absolute knob while doing it. And not really do my job properly.

What would it take for you to become a traffic warden?

Well you sir are living the dream. How hard is it to set up as a bike breaker? Could well be interested in doing that. Any wisdom you can part with?

Can I just ask, how many bikes you usually have in for breaking at any one time? Size of storage area ect...?

I've been thinking of doing this on a small scale, few bikes a month, nothing major.

Had a mate do it for about 2 weeks. He was 6ft 2, 23 stone, looked like a mean bastard, I once watched him roundhouse a kickbag ripping the wall brackets out..... he could handle himself.

He jacked it in after two weeks because he said it was only a matter of time before he had a gun pulled on him he got that much aggro, and it wasn't worth it for the wage.

So yeah, would take at least a licence to carry a firearm just in case!! Smile

at the moment i have 20 bikes and lots and lots of parts my aim is to get to 100 bikes at anyone time most ive had at once so far is 47 plus parts i find old sports bikes break better than new because if you look on ebay the market is flooded with fireblade r1 r6 ect parts now rf600/900 very few parts and will break for around 1200 each but can be bought for as little as £50 from insurence or £300 privately
the likes of africa twins and ccm's are the best breakers

And how do you go about getting this membership from insurance companys to buy their write off stock? Do you get a choice of what you want to buy, and do you have to buy a certain amount per month / year from them?

A proper yellow top traffic warden wouldn't be so bad so I'd consider it. They get a fair bit of stick but they do do a useful job.

One of the private wardens? Never, no amount of money would ever persuade me to do that job, they are dicks of the first order who go out of their way to ticket cars.

As a yellow top, they seem more concerned with the flow of traffic as opposed to the flow of revenue, for the most part anyway.

Thumbs Up

In reality, I think I'd really enjoy it. I'd be the most pedantic, power mad arsehole ever to wander the streets Mr. Green .

If I wasn't giving up a research career that I enjoy I'd do it for any reasonable salary and something to beat offenders with.

Hopefully she'll see that your not a real friend then Wink.

I wouldn't mind doing it, I've thought about applying a while ago, but can't due to my second job.

Traffic wardens perform a valuable public service. If they didn't exist driving or parking anywhere in town would be a free-for-all and the roads would be unusable.

You wouldn't catch me doing it. I'm not anal or thick-skinned enough. But I'm happy someone does.

Private health care, have my pelvis fixed and other injuries sorted out so I could walk about without pain, and of course a good salary. And an undercover outfit...then I'd definitely consider it. Thumbs Up
