HI Guys,
Just came to work today and just before turning the engine off, i smelt a little burning.
I inspected the Oil Drain Nut and put my finger under it. I saw some small amounts of oil.
Anything i can do?
I have done Oil changes myslef in the past and never changed the nut or anything else.
Is there something i may need to put between the Nut and the Engine to seal it?

Many thanks

I think there should be a washer between the bolt and engine that seals it. This should be replaced each time. They are very cheap to come by.

Thanks,

Do you know the name of this washer or rubber seal?

Excellent,

Does this go between the Main Drain Nut and the engine?

From memory the sump drain plug under the engine has a copper sealing washer and the oil filter drain cover on the side of the engine has an O ring.

Mine never had the copper o ring in the main nut....

I've just done an oil change about 20-30 miles ago and now I may have to do it again just to put a new ring in it Sad

Drain your oil into a container and just reuse it again, also try to get a magnetic sump plug from ebay as they do help and keep any metal particals on the plug until the next oil change. There is also a thimble filter on the CG125 located underneath the gearchange lever which should be cleaned as well on each oil change.

Depends on the year of manufacture, radical.

My CG125-W for example has just the plug on the side below the gear lever. Behind this plug is the spring and 'thimble' assembly mentioned, and there's no seperate sump drain plug. However, the W ceased production in around 2000/01.

Not sure what the 2007 models had without checking the manuals.

To save draining the lot , do it cold & dont open the filler plug this will slow the flow & if you're quick you can after loosening drain plug , take it out have the crush washer in other hand fit it & bung it straight back in , still have something to catch oil .

Just checked about the 2007 model (either a late ES-4, or an ES-7 - should be a label near the battery to tell which, although the models are essentially the same), and it should be the same as the W - a single large cap near the gear selector, behind which is the spring and filter.

In other words, if you watch this video, you'll the plug, spring, and mesh 'thimble' .

Cheers,

JH

Ahh yes,

I remember that good old video. That's where I learnt how to do my first Oil change.

This person (Alan) also tells you how to fix the starter motor.

Excellent stuff
