What colour was the plug?

Were you on reserve fuel?

It could be some crap deep within the carb that's making it run lean as hell.

Really dark, sounds like rich so the crap could be around the float/needle valve not letting it close, that ties in better with closing the idle mix screw to improve it.

My last encounter with the recovery services involved him having a quick look then loading it up and taking me home, must have been a better bloke if he was carb stripping at the side of the road Smile

does sound fuel related with some crud getting into the carb, try fitting an inline filter on the fuel line for future use and clean the carb out, also check your airbox and airbox drain for signs of moisture and clean or replace your air filter if necessary.

They are ultra reliable but need the same care and attention as any bike does, most CG 125s die an early death because people refuse to change or even top up the oil and expect them to run forever on air and nothing else. Sounds like you have allowed the fuel to run low and the carb has picked up some crud or water from the bottom of the tank which would stop any bike from running right.

I used to work in Esso, they don't let it get that low, they turn the pumps off before that happens Thumbs Up

Awwww dude no! Just got back from down south and read this thread.

This seriously isn't good, you've killed a CG Shocked
You can still buy my GS if you want, its got about 10 mins left on ebay though Laughing
Other than that, if you use a training schools bike then i think you will have to have had some training with them, although some may be willing to take you out an hour before your test, but that means extra dosh Rolling Eyes .

Wheres your test at anyways, st.helens?
Dont suppose all your lights went out when it happened did they? I had a similar thing on the Gs, where i rode off and there was a big bang from the exhaust. All the electrics had gone due to a loose connector block. I assume the guy at the garage checked the wiring?

Just a shot in the dark but have you looked really carefully around the exhaust header to check for a leak? If you spray some soapy water over the area when the engine is idling, you might see bubbles... An air leak might cause those issues..

Ah, well then, um, no. You can check for a spark by taking the plug out and holding it against the engine, with some pliers or mole grips or something.
