PostPosted: 11:10 - 23 Aug 2010    Post subject: New Bike - Opinions please Reply with quote

Hi guys

Currently i have a 99 zx6r and i'm mainly after something newer/more modern. Bikes i've kind of narrowed it down to are these 3 and would mainly like your personal opinions or experiances with them. Needs to be a 600 if anybody has any other opinions as i can't insure much more.

Thanks.

Absolutely no doubt that the 636 is the best of the bunch. I have owned an 05 636 and a K4 GSXR 600, both very good bikes but the Kwak was the clear winner for me.

its an attractive bike, moto gp based look alike Thumbs Up
it is also under spec'ed compared to the kwack, less powerful, weighs more, has poor midrange and expensive used prices Thumbs Down

The Zx6r is the better looking bike imo. I quite fancy a new bike in a few months time, would love to get myself one of those!

Depends what you want from your bike really, I know handling wise the 600rr is pretty awesome but its a pretty 'slow' bike (slow meaning lacking slightly in comparsion to some other 6's).
The zx6r certainly has the strongest engine, still considering one myself but want to try another manufacturer - and why the hell did they make the tail unit so fat??
The gixxer k4/5- personally I dont like them but i think thats because they have been massively dated by the k6 and onwards.

To be fair though there all gonna be a decent step forward from your current bike.

Thumbs Up

They'll all be a nice improvement over a 99 ZX6R, which is very laid back, master of nothing average at everything.

I rode a 99 ZX6R and a 03 636 back to back and the difference was amazing.

A few months ago I also rode a 03 636 and a 05 CBR600RR back to back on a trackday. The 636 had more grunt, but the CBR was massively more stable when accelerating hard over the bumps. I've not rode a 05 636 so cant comment but I've heard they can be a little twitchy too.

I would probably take the CBR out of the bunch.

kind of what you expect as the cbr has an electric steering damper,
the c1h is has a less radical geometry irrc, so is less slapper prone,
plus with the money save you could just buy a damper

The CBR didn't get an electric steering damper until the RR7.

Out of the 3, I'd opt for the K4. I very nearly bought one instead of my R6 a few years back.

I've always been a fan of the RRs, the 05-06 ones are pretty good, you get upside down forks.

I've tended to find they handle relatively well compared to others. Comments of its a bit boring or seems to do everything a little too well can be true on day to day riding, however, go and push it, and push it a lot and it can go very very quick.

I've rode other sports 600s (infact all the 2007 models), the zx-6r was nice, the r6 was nice and the daytona was nice. I wasnt a real fan of the gixxer although it was fun to ride.

Looks of the bike is one thing, but you should spend more time on it rather than looking at it, as such, go and ride a few and see what you think.

All three of the bikes you've picked will ride better/worse for different people and different riding styles, so you're probrably best to see which fits yours best.

If you're coming from a ZZR you'll find the 636 and the RR much more focused, im not sure about the gsxr as i've never rode one of that year, so unsure if its still more sports tourer than outright supersport.

I'm coming from a 99 6r though and will also be using the bike i choose everyday of my life as i don't have a car/car license.

If i was basing it on looks alone it would be the CBR hands down but i want something i can buy and in 3-4 years time still enjoy it. Regarding pushing to the limits this will be my second big bike so i don't think any of the choices will be 'at the limit' for a fair while.
