Hi,

I just passed my DAS a couple of weeks ago and am looking at getting my first bike in the next 3-4 weeks.

I'm on a bit of a budget for clothing so can't afford to spend a lot of money, I'm hoping to get a jacket and trousers for under £250, the cheaper the better! Should have armour in the shoulders, elbows, knees, ideally back and hip too. And I'd like it to be suitable for summer and winter, and have a fairly sporty feel to it.

I like the idea of leathers but I think I'll be riding to work sometimes so would have to wear work clothes under and the higher prices put it out of my budget I think.

What decent, sporty looking textiles can you reccomend in my price range?

Are you near George Whites in Swindon?

They have good prices on decent amour down there most weekends, also if you're using the bike for commuting then Textiles is more practical over leathers purely for weather resistance.

Most jackets have decent amour in the shoulder/arm area by default.

I have had a Revit Textile jacket since my first bike, a moped, passed my licence since and now on a 600, the jacket is still in good condition and useable 2 years later...

recomend them but my opinion is bias as I haven't tried other manufacturers.

HTH Thumbs Up

If you're skint then I can thoroughly recommend the Spada 940 jacket.

Around £45 - £50.

It's cheap, waterproof and has armour on the elbows and shoulders, tho there's only a flimsy 6mm foam sheet as back armour. It's got plenty of pockets. Two waterproof zip and flap covered pockets on the outside, another two outer zip pockets, a mobile phone pocket and two zip pockets on the inside. It can zip connect onto Spada trousers . It's main drawback is it isnt breathable. If you work in one or have to move about alot in it, then you'll drown in your own sweat. If so turn it inside out and let it dry out as soon as you get home or it will start to stink.

Mine lasted nearly 2 years of commuting and working in before the cuffs became too frayed. Other than that it was still usable. No problems with the zips. It looks harder wearing than the Aldi/Lidl jackets. I just bought another one as a work/commuting jacket.

Ebay mate, good Nik branded gear ready to steal for 20 quid ... Thumbs Up

Definitely ebay.
Two years ago I bought a rst jacket for 120 quid and it let water in after 1.5 years. Now I got myself a 2nd hand jacket for 10 quid off ebay and it is totally waterproof.
If I ever buy a brand new jacket/trousers again it will be a 400 pound, 5 year guarantee gore tex one.
Don't worry about the armour. Ask the seller if the jacket has armour pockets then search for "ce armour" on ebay. They would cost you around another 20 quid.
50 quid, job done Thumbs Up

I have a spada adventure jacket, loads of pockets, some of which are waterproof, and loads of zip open air vents (front, back, sides, down the sleeves etc). Love it.
Totally waterproof and has a huge bum pocket for mobile, wallet, spare gloves etc.

Just dont buy it in white, looks filthy in a matter of weeks.

I have a Richa Multi Jacket, I got it discounted for £100. The waterproof/windproof and thermal liners are all good and can be removed, the armour is excellent and did well in my low speed off. It doesn't look too gay either.

The Richa airflow (or whatever they're called) trousers I got to go with it are ropey though. One of the zips broke and the armour is nowhere near as substantial as that in the jacket. They're a completely different grade, nice and cool though.

The above was bought for about £180.

I've had a two piece set of Frank Thomas for 3 years, that get constant use in the colder months, that are still water proof, and all intact.
