Posted: 11:41 - 10 Aug 2010 Post subject: Getting oil stains off your driveway? |
 |
|
Hi folks,
My driveway is covered in random WD40, chain oil and ACF-50 stains.
I tried pressure washing them, and boiling them off with fairy liquid and copious amounts of hot water, but they're still there.
Anybody know how to shift them?
Cheers,

If it is tarmac then get a detergent based cleanser specifically fot the purpose.
If it is concrete then sling a load of petrol over it and brush it in with a stiff brush. The petrol dissolves the grease/oils and you can then sweep it off.
I spilt about a pint of thick black used engine oil all over a concrete driveway, washed it off with petrol and you cannot see where it used to be.
Gives you a headache if you mess about too long though and don't try it on a tarmac driveway as it thins the bitumen and ruins the surface.
Seriously give it a go, works great . |

It's paving stones, the little brick sized ones.
There's quite a lot of it - lots of little bits over a large area- but I'll try the petrol approach then wash it away with the hose. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

the_godfather off here uses some sort of solvent cleaner on his driveway, don't know what it contains but it works perfectly, it's also one of those brick driveways.
I'll get him to pop a link to it on here when I next see him ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

I already tried fairy liquid and boiling water but it just didn't work. The stains were too old and stubborn, and too many.
I got it sorted though! Poured about 3/4 litres of petrol down, gave it a good scrub with a sweeping brush, then spent about an hour washing it all away with the pressure washer, and it came up absolutely immaculate!
Looks like new, not even a slight stain left.
I daren't smoke or weld for the next 6 months though ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |
