I have the Caberg flip, which is VERY noisy, i've bRought some laser plugs of ebay recomended on here, although arrived with half of them squashed ...
Anyway some flips will be much better for noise than the cabergs, but i think you need a non flip one for higher speeds ... ie 80 plus ..
I also think many will put forward their lids as good for the job, so you will have a dozen or so to try and choose, that are already recomended by BCF members .. ____________________ Fuk um !! |

Do you have the whisper kit fitted to your XR1000? If not then it may be worth getting one and trying it out before splashing out mega bucks on another lid. It simply clips into the bottom of your helmet and makes quite a difference to the noise levels inside the helmet.

I'm surprised you're having problems with ear plugs in, I would have thought with them properly inserted it wouldn't matter how loud your helmet was. Make sure you've got them fitted properly I guess...they need to go in the holes in the side of your head, not the ones on the front
By the way that whisper kit cost more than my helmet itself

What ear plugs are you using? I have an XR1000 and find it perfectly quiet with ear plugs. ____________________ My Flickr |

Ideally you want them far enough in that they meet in the middle. If your finger isn't buried up to the kuckle then you haven't gone far enough |

I think all of the Schuberth lids seem to have a good rep for low noise.
There's one particular one, can't remember which, that's meant to be realllly quiet. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

I have to admit, I find the XR1000 to be noisy as well... but was kind of convinced that's because the one I have is a bit big for me. I've recently bought a Schuberth S1 Pro and it's much, much quieter - but I still need plugs for anything much over 50. Now, all I need to find is a set of plugs that suits both ears, as the ones I have work really well in the right, but not the left... ____________________ Ahhh, cock. There goes more money... |

I've had both the Schuberth S1 and S1 Pro (my current lid) which replaced it.
I rated the S1, it was quiet and fitted well with little wear over the two years which I wore it, at 100+ it was as quiet as a Nolan at 70-80mph.
Tempted by a sale price at HG in December I bought a S1 Pro, now I know they'd changed the design slightly, but personally I think it's bloody awful and a step backwards.
Admittedly the S1 could be a bit on the warm side in summer, so they changed the chin skirt, giving the S1 Pro a removable section to let more air in. They've added extra vents, made it lighter, and used different padding. All of this means it's lighter and offers more ventilation but is therefore much noisier.
To be honest I took it back, and asked if they'd moved manufacturing to Romania or some such place because even holding it in your hand it lacked the quality feel of the original S1 and felt more like the R1 which looks and feels shocking.
However, as there's actually nothing wrong with it, I'm stuck with it until I change to my next lid.
I was going to go for a Shoei XR-1100 myself next, but if you reckon it's noisy I might wait and see what Scuhberth come up with in the next 18 months.
Simple question no malice intented, do you have the ear plugs in correctly?
Are they inserted well into the ear canal (not so far you retch) and after they're seated can you hear your fingers being rubbed together (think "smallest violin in the world type rubbing") approx 4-6" in front of your ears? If so they're not in right and it's not necessarily your helmet. ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |
