.. god I hate that job!!!
It is so tricky to get to the CCTs, especially the front one!! ... that and the front rocker cover means you have to take 3/4 of the bike apart to get to it!!!
Still, I have set the gaps so huge now they will never need doing again ... shame it sounds like an old taxi now ...
Anyone else set the gaps LARGE (i.e. slightly larger than even the upper end of the suggested gapping) to try and increase service intervals?!!??  ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity.

yes, bucket and shim. .. hence the cct faffing
doing clearances on a bucket and shim is such a faff its worth trying to set them large imho ...
as for all this doomsday about out of spec (large) meaning lack of oil and damaging valves. ... I suggest you guys think more clearly about what is actually going on in there  ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

I Was always taught with my Kawasaki, as well as my Triumph 1500 roadcar to go for the middle of the manufacturer's specified range. Reason being, if you slightly over or under cook the clearance from that point, you should have a bit of leaway so it doesn't end up overly tight/loose.
I should also do the valve clearances on my pug, but with 175k miles on it and a bucket/shim arrangement, i really cba..  ____________________ 1997 Kawasaki ER 500 A1:- Once again, Its merely crap  |

The only thing that makes valve clearances difficult is miss prints in manuals and stretched CCT's. Fucking VTR hahaha!  ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |
