More of an aftertaste with the Irish Meadow but not enough to justify the difference in price.
Cheap whisky mixed with evaporated milk and a pinch of coffee is what we used to do when I was a student. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Irish Meadow or similar if I'm making a "Baileys" coffee
I still love the coffee flavour Baileys if I'm drinking it over ice ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

Some of my most embarrassing times have been caused by supping copious amounts of Baileys and whisky over ice. Anyone that hasn't tried that combination really should do so. I have tried various cheap alternatives to Baileys and have always been disappointed. Irish Meadow is one that I haven't tried but after reading this review I might give it a bash:-

I've got Baileys in the cupboard along with Kahlua and Amrula, however, what is of most concern to me is the half bottle of Advocaat I will need to get at least another bottle, as it wouldn't be Christmas without copious quantities of Snowballs. I've loads of lemonade, limes and brandy, so more of the yellow stuff required!
If you're mixing drink then it's ok to go with the cheap stuff, but if you're drinking it on it's own, I think you need to go with the proper job.................until you've had a skin full then you can change to the cheap stuff without even noticing (until the next morning)! ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'

There is a motorbike rally up North that features an event called the Baileys Challenge.
It's a three part challenge.
1) Who can down a bottle of baileys the fastest.
2) Who can hold it down for longest.
3) Who can vomit in the most perfect circle. (as in spin round as you vomit onto balck tarmac).
A bloke from Shetland wins every year. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I don't mind the odd Baileys here and there, but I won't drink the cheap shite.
I don't like how they've adulterated it with other "flavours" now either.
I have to admit, my favourite tipple like that is Amaretto di Saronno (not cheap and nasty amaretto, either, has to be the proper thing), or ... even better ... a proper made Brandy Alexander cocktail, mmmmmmm.
And the extra-thick double cream with Baileys in, is nasty, too.
I tried it, but decided to stick to the cream with cognac in it instead.

Having done various drinking experiments of cheap Baileys or Fakeys I can conclude that both Home Bargains and Lidl do rather good ones for 3.99. The Asda and Netto ones are a little harsher. Should you truly wish to find some proper noxious alcohol this xmas then I heartily recommend a trip to Netto were you can buy not only Foxhunters sherry (you couldnt even use it as antifreeze) and the other favourite Scotchmac. Its whiskey and wine combined
They both make Frosty Jack look like the queens aperitiff. |

Me and the missus went to Alcudia in Mallorca on holiday a few years ago (we've been there a few times, but this time's relevant) and were on a late flight. We landed at something like 2200. It's miles from the landing gates to baggage claim, then we had to pick up a hire car, so by the time we'd driven from the airport and across the island up to Alcudia, it was about 1am and we were knackered and couldn't be bothered going out for a drink.
Now, here's the thing. My missus loves Baileys. It was on offer in the airport going out, so we'd bought 4 bottles (I know, I couldn't believe it either), one original, one mint, a coffee and a caramel. By the time we'd got to Alcudia, all the shops were shut so we couldn't go buy beer, wine or anything and there was sod all in the apartment. So we got stuck in to the Baileys. I think we managed 3 bottles between us before retiring at silly o'clock in the AM. The next morning, we were fucking rancid. I've never experienced a hangover like it, headache, nausea, vomiting, shits, it was an "whole body" hangover, the likes of which I never want to repeat. I still like the stuff though, unlike cider, which I still can't drink to this day...
