Not alot i should think, it'll still fit. All the numbers mean are the various widths of the rubber..

the first number is the width across, so it'll be 10mm smaller then the other, and the 2nd number is the sidewall width

Unless you're having issues with traction from accelerating all a bigger tyre will do is slow down the turn in. Wider ones look cooler though.

i'm running a 190 50 on the rear atm instead of 180 55. picked up a pair 2nd hand super cheap and had been used for very little mileage before getting changed.
through the experience with these, the turn in and acceleration does feel slower. i also cant get over to the very limit of the tyre, pretty much just to where a 180 would be.

That's probably because it's only a 5.5j wheel, a 190 tyre is meant for a 6j wheel.
So the edges of the tyre will be distorted where it's been pulled in further than it's meant to, making the edges almost impossible to reach.

Stick with the 180/55 if you can. I changed my TLR1000 from a 190/50 to a 180/55 for handling.

Cheers

Would putting a 180/55 tyre on a 6 inch rim not have the opposite effect you were hoping for? i.e the smaller tyre is being stretched over a wider tyre so making its profile flatter? so it would not steer any quicker at all, plus you now have less rubber in contact with the road surface than before?

I might b wrong, but its what put me off of taking advice of fitting a 180/55 to my 7r, so i stuck with the 190/50, though im going to make some spacers for the rear hugger and fit a 190/55 when these tyres die

In some ways, yes.

But a 180/55 still has a slightly taller profile to a 190/50, So you're still gaining that bit of height at the rear.

190/55 is the BSB size, best size to go for on a big sports bike if clearance will allow.
