rxs100 oil light problem

hey i know the oil light is supposed to come on when not in gear but my question is what would cause it to not work i have a full 2 stroke tank but still nothing could this be a wiring or could it be something to do with the float inside the 2 stroke tank? many thanks to all who reply

The oil light comes on when not in gear? That sounds odd, is it definitely meant to be like that?

I have fuel, and its getting past the valve under the tank, i haven't been able to check if its getting to the pistons yet as to check the spark plugs i need to remove the airbox and thats a bitch to do..

sounds like the early mito oil light, comes on in neutral & goes out when in gear.
will come back on & stay on when 2t gets low.
float has 2 thin gauge wires, 1 of which usually breaks,(right where it disapears into the tank/float assembly)
or might just be the bulb in the cluster,

Yes how else do you know if the bulb has blown Which is also the most likely answer to the OPS query.

When the ignition is on and the engine isn't started? My bike and all the others I've ridden have been like that.

It is an RXS, kickstart, 6v electrics, the bike has no ECU you tell the light the engine has started.

I do own one BTW.

I'm not doubting that it does do that, I was just pondering as to it's reasoning. Never seen a bike like it is all. Thumbs Up

Damaged wire somewhere most likely. Though I did have an oil light sensor fail on me (though that was at 280,000 miles, so they probably wouldn't pack up under normal usage).

checked the bulb and replaced it so i know its not the bulb but will check all the wiring.
If they are all ok what else would it be to stop it from coming on many thanks

Only the float, and that can be checked by removing it from the harness and connecting the feed wires together.

As I said above it is an old bike there is no easy way for the bike to 'know' it is running so the best way of testing it is to have it come on with the neutral light.

@digit it isn't the float as the problem is with the light not the sensor, the light is not coming on when it should be show as a test not because the oil is low.

Wiring would be my next guess.

My rd 125lc oil light is always on when not in gear.

My rx-s 100 oil light does not come on unless my oil tank is less than 3/4 full which is odd. I can be worrying sometimes because i know there is oil but because the light is on alot i sometimes forget to remove the panel and check it !

But your problem could be a loose connection or maybe your bulb is out ?

possibly a dodgy sensor.
