After a couple of days out on track at Le Mans my tyres have a distinct blue colour on the shoulders front and rear.

There is a fair amount of tread left on them, but I'm slightly concerned.

Should I be thinking about changing them?

Not at all, it's the oils coming out of the tyre due to the heat cycles I believe.

There is tread left and I presume you have loads of grip left in the Racetecs?

They were gripping fine when I last used them, the discolouration just put me off a bit.

I'll take them out for the next couple of TDs and change after that Smile

As has been said, it is due to the heat cycle while riding. Nothing to worry about. Thumbs Up

mine looked worse than that after a hot mallory trackday but i've done 2 trackdays since and they're fine. they scrub up straight away np

just gotta watch the heat cycles and when you start feeling some slippage or any cracking get em changed

Good example of where tyre warmers are actually quite good for trackdayers. Not for that 'critical first lap grip' nonsense, but because they allow you to put your tyres through just one heat cycle per day. This helps avoid the blueing and all the 'cold shear' effect of being thrashed from cold.

Go out on your first session, warm the tyres, then fit warmers as soon as you return to the pits. Whip them off just as the next session leaves the pit lane, and repeat this routine all day, including leaving the warmers on over lunch. Thus you get the tyres up to temperature once and then keep them that way = one heat cycle.

If you're spending £220 on a pair of decent track tyres, it's worth spinning them out as long as you can. After all it's not racing, it's a trackday. It's heat cycles that destroy trackday tyres, rarely loss of tread depth.

Alternatively fit road rubber that's designed to be ridden fairly hard from cold over and over again in the first place.

I would check you tyre pressures as the blueing can be coursed by incorrect tyre pressure.

Sorry checking when cold, when warm was a reference to the weather

Depending how hard you ride (fast/ inter) i would drop a few psi.
I have always gone by the rule of aiming to get the tyres to run at about 34 psi when hot.
But of cause this is like most thing when it comes to set up, it is all about personal preference.
And as already said the lack of tyre warmers will not be helping.
