WHO THE FUCK LEAVES A BRICK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD?!

So yeah, I have a bent rim, brown pants and need a new front wheel. Ffs. Didn't have alot of time to react, as I only saw it when it came out under the car infront. Managed to swerve but it clipped the rh side of the front wheel, lucky I stayed on the bike and kept it on the road! Must have been pretty airbourne as I remember looking down on the bike from above Shocked

EDIT: Was doing about 60mph on a rural A road. Didn't go back and remove the brick as it was on a crest and I didn't want to cause a bigger accident or become road kill. Feel guilty about it, as I'd hate someone else to do the same.

And riding in the centre of the lane too, tut tut. Had you been in one of the 'wheel channels' of the lane it would not have happened, plus you would have been on a more appropriate line*.

*In most circumstances.

Pah, shut up you rotters Laughing

Anyone find me a good wheel on eBay? Cheapest I've found is £125 but looks a bit rough, found a good one for £149. 99~00 wheels are different to 01~ wheels, just an fyi.

Going to go have a good check over the bike now, make sure nothing else is damamged. I think the rear wheel may have hit it too, as both front and rear tyres have a large white brick dust mark on them.

Will get a pic too.

I've learnt something then. I usually ride in the middle of the lane which is how my instructor taught me. Its wheel channels from now on for me.

for your test they say ride in the middle, for safe road riding you want to be just right of the middle, practically where the driver sits in a car, gets you in rear view mirror and right side mirror, it's also an aggressive positioning, making it appear you 'own' your piece of road.

How bad is it? You would be surprised how good some repair jobs can be.

The test hasn't got an amazing amount to do with good or safe driving though.
'Advanced' riding tends to teach positioning for safety/visibility on the open road.

It isn't that bad, would probably be a prime candidate for an easy repair. Thing is, the bike will have to be left at gfs house, so I'm not going to be around to work on it, removing the wheel etc and messing about sending it away. The paint isn't in great shape anyway, so a new rim is the easiest option.

Plan is to get a new rim, and then limp the bike to the local tyre place, to swap the discs and tyre over to the new wheel. Have a friend coming over this weekend, so luckily he can give me a lift home (It's about 85 miles). He's volunteered to help me with moving the new wheel and picking the bike up too Smile

Importantly, pics! Seems the rear wheel went right over it too, although the wheel is untouched.

That really doesn't need a new wheel, you should see what they do to HGV wheels with big hammers. Shocked
Seriously, you could almost tap that back yourself.

When I had a wheel repaired, I just left the bike with them and 2 hours later it was done.

I wouldn't have the confidence to ride quickly on a wheel that I had bodge repaired myself, it's just not worth taking that chance imo.

Truslack; fair point.

You should have gone back & retrieved the brick!

Then you could have had it ferenzikally tested....

Found out who owned the brick......
Found out who dropped the brick.....

Got a No-win-No fee Lawyer on the case to sue them for the damage to the rim, littering, carrying an unsecure load, and the trauma of the incident, & dry-cleaning of your kegs!

Oh & possibly the council and or highways agency for not cleaning the road or maintaining it in a safe standard of repair!

Tish! NOT going back for the brick! You FOOL!

with a dent that tiny the structural strength isn't going to have suffered. that would take a few hammer knocks with the tyre off to fix mate.

or let the pros do it https://www.motoliner.com/alloy_wheel_repair.htm should be cheaper then a new rim

I can see a Post Your Chicken Strips in the making.

I'll be the first to admit mine are pathetic as I'm still learning the limits of me and the bike together. But each time I look they are getting a little smaller and it means I am getting somewhere.

I'll get a pic of mine before i go to work tonight and post it when I get home. If the thread hasnt already been started I'll start one!

I look forward to seeing the rear tyre of both the chicken and the lunatic's out there.
