Okay,
So I have my bike battery here, Nay to happy either, sitting around 12.15v.
The batter is a *Nitro* YTX5L-BS and not really all that old to be honest, I suspect that a lot of my riding lately has been at night and fannying about with the starter motor hasn’t helped matters much either...

With that being said I am going to be going over the bike's regulator and what not to be sure that there isn’t a problem elsewhere leading to this situation I have here.

Any who, for now (this evening at least), my batteries about as far down this table I have here (acquired from here ) as I would like to see it sooooo.

I have a trickle charger pushing out a whopping 300mA and I am wondering how long to leave it on charge?

Also coming from a modelling background I'm pretty well versed in lipos and other such but know very little about these kinds of batteries...

Would cycling it do any good? Should I just charge it, throw it back in, carry on checking out the rest of the bike and come back in a couple of days to see how it’s doing?

Would the fact the battery tray (or box really) was half full or water have affected the battery itself (DIY draining holes to fix that!).

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

As long as the trickle charger is charging in constant voltage mode, you should be ok, the battery will just pull whatever current it wants.

If it's charging at a constant current then just stick a voltmeter on the battery and check it doesn't exceed 14.3V.

It is a 5amp battery, if it is down at 20% and you have a 300mah charger, then you need to leave it on for ~12hrs ... basically leave it on overnight and it'll be good to go in the morning!! Thumbs Up

Hey,
That optimate link is awesome, sadly the only thing i have to charge with is this 300mA wall socket do-hicky...
Will be going back home next week at some point though, have have to bring back a decent charger and give that a shot Very Happy
