RXS100 Blowing Headlamp Bulbs

My RXS has got into the habit of blowing low beam filaments after extended periods of high revs (when I'm ragging the nuts off it to keep up with sports bikes). I did a ride out last week, and another this week and both times it's killed the low beam filament at some point in the ride.

Is this just a case of riding slower or does this mean some kind of regulator is broken?

His problem looks to be with halogen bulbs which I wouldn't even dream of running in my bike, even if I could find them. So nobody has had a similar problem with their RXS? I also have the problem that everything (including the indicators) are really dim at low revs...but I figured that was just 6 volt electrics as it's done that since I got it in March (and replaced the battery).

It could be the regulator thats gone (do you have a multimeter?) or it could just be vibration if it only happens when your at high revs for a long period.

On the dim lights front, i'd go round the bike and clean all the connections and earths for the lights and indicators, they need to be spot on to for the lights to be effective(if you can call them effective).

Also I'd recommend getting a good quality battery for it. When I had my fizzy (6v) running it came with a crappy make battery and the lights were poo. Fitted a yuasa(you can get them for like a tenner for an rxs) and there was a noticable improvement straight away.

I'm pretty sure the one I've got is a yuasa. I should probably check the water level in it though. I also gave all the earths etc a thorough going over when I got the bike which helped a lot.

I'll borrow a friend's multimeter and check the voltages for the headlamp at different revs, along with the battery and regulator. Although I don't know what is normal parameters for an RXS.

Indicator-wise I might take a look at what wattage bulbs I have, as I've just read that 8w bulbs are likely to be less useless.

Have you got a wiring diagram / Haynes manual?
If its the 'old' 6v system, then its possible that its the 'lighting direct' magneto system they used on the older air-cooled singles.
Basically generator has coil for the ignition, another to charge the battery, and another for the head-lamp & tail light, as they are the 'high-load' devices.
If the headlamp doesn't light up (side-light only) without the engine running, then its pretty likely.
I think that there is a small zenner diode in the circuit to prevent over-voltage, which may have broken down, but you'll need to check the wiring diagram.
Other thing is the bulb wattage.
6v lamps are pretty dire, so common to fit higher rated bulbs than standard.
These burn hotter, so are more prone to blowing due to vibration and or over-volts.
Other thing is bad earths.
Old bikes, connections corrode. corrosion causes a resistance between contacts, that puts extra load on the circuit drawing more amps, becouse the resistance is in series with the bulb though, it burns dimmer, but still sees higher amps, and that can be enough to make it pop.

The bulbs I've had issues with are the ones from wemoto which are 45/40 bulbs https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Yamaha/RXS_100/86-94/picture/Bulb_Headlight/

The low beam filament has definitely gone, as replacing the bulb or using high beam works. This has happened a couple of times in two weeks now.

I have some understanding of electronics, but I don't have time to try and decipher the wiring diagram in my haynes manual at the moment...

Maybe just running 35w bulbs would fix the problem.

Without the engine running, only the indicators and the brake light work as far as I know.

When I have more time I'll check out everything with a multimeter.
