my brakes......

Got on the bike this morning, got ten minutes down the road and my front drum brake started making a "clank clank clank" noise that got faster / slower with the bike.

Pulling the brake caused the noise to be replaced with a rubbing noise. Lever was dead tight, then when you pull it again feels normal, then dead tight again...

Limped back to the house and I have to get to work so won't have time to investigate further till tonight (I'm not riding it till its sorted obviously! Taking the bicycle Twisted Evil

)

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar?

It came on suddenly after a few speed bumps so I don't think its a sticking brake cable. Broken brake shoe maybe?[/i]

Could be anything, you'll need to take it apart. My guess would be that the friction material has detached itself from the shoe.

Aye ill find out what it is tonight when I strip it but ill likely spend the rest of the day trying to work out what it is even though I haven't looked yet lol

Drum Brakes are relatively simple the hardest part will be getting the wheel off.

front wheels arent too bad though. With the right tools you'll have it off in a couple of minutes. And its drum, its the cunt disc brakes which are annoying to get back on to the discs. My pistons never want to go back in, probably because my calipers are full cack

I wouldn't, buy some new shoes they aren't expensive and come with springs. You could probably get a spring on it's own from an independent dealer for pence.

My RXS ones did, I posted the pattern ones because I assumed the reason you wasn't going to do it was cost. It is one of the most common bikes in the world I dare say any bike shop would stock them.

I know it's a pita to be off the road waiting for parts, but personally I don't think you should ride it. Knowingly riding a bike with faulty brakes cannot possibly be passed off as a good idea; especially if you were unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident in that time.

Brakes is also a vital parts of a bike so you have regularly check it especially when you run into off roads.

Awk I know its a stoopid idea, ill just leave it!

Didn't really consider that the lower spring would prevent the shoes jumping about when I hit bumps etc!
