Question,

I renewed my insurance last month and declared my 3 points which has been on my licence for 2 years.

Last Friday I was flashed by a speed camera doing 40 in a 30. (fuck!)
Its only been a few days so my letter hasn't come yet but I'm pretty much done for.

My question is do I need to ring my insurance and tell them of my new speeding offence or do I wait until renewal time as the offence was committed after I took out the new policy? Karma

Yes, you do have to inform your insurers but it shouldn't cost you anything extra until you have to renew it.

I recently had this same problem.

As a general rule of thumb with insurance, if you think they need to know, tell them. Its much better than waiting till you have to claim and then being told your insurance is invalid!

My dad used to work for an insurance company, and he's got a few stories, they'll happily take your money, but you need to make sure your policy is 100% the truth or you risk getting nothing.

Don't do anything till you find out if the camera was working.....

Check the T/C of the policy. If it says anything about points gained during policy then do as it says.
If it says nothing, then they can't do anything.

You shouldn't inform your insurers until you have been notified of the offence and the points have been added to your license. Only when you get your license back from the DVLA should you inform your insurers.

I used to work for a motor insurer and we were always told that if the points weren't on the license yet, the insurer doesn't care about them.
