On my commute home this evening the engine of my RXS100 spluttered, the exhaust went bang, and then everything died very suddenly, with very little warning. Much more sudden than failure of spark plug.

A new spark plug did not cure it - engine will turn, but there is no spark at the spark plug when removed from the cylinder. The neutral and oil lights light up.

Any ideas ? Could the ignition switch be at fault, or is there something else I should be checking ?

Cheers

Well as previously mentioned, no spark means coil, CDI & timing

the exhaust went bang

My guess is:
This means unburnt exhaust gases as a result of timing being out which could indicate the points have malfunctioned.

Check for water in the stator components, particularly under the coils. Attack with WD40/similar.
