I was doing an oil change today and found this part with the wire type filter. So what is it?

Its small 9mm diameter, dark green plastic, and the small end is broken/worn away, quite roughly.

Also doing the centrifugal filter, bloody screws are rounded. so the question is do I drill out or leave it...? and where to get new? :O

oil was the blackest Ive seen :o

thanks
Mark

It looks like the end of the neutral switch to me, how the hell did that get in there Shocked

If I remember rightly, the bolts you need for the centrifugal filter are M6 and you need countersunk heads.

never liked cross head screws...

the last owner told me the neutral switch doesnt work, now I know why :O
how easy should it be to fix the switch?

thanks

havnt a clue what that is,maybe something a previous owner bunged in ?

also how hard is it to get the the centrifugal filteR ? what do you have to do to get in to it ?

thanks

hmm

first give bike a good run to get oil warm, drain it and clean the mesh filter.
exhaust off
foot pegs off
kickstart off
undo clutch cable
*Clean* the engine cover, oily rag will pick up most dirt.
12 bolts on cover. Need very small 8mm, 1/4" drive socket for one of them, theres no space for anything else.

Then put in gear, hold brake, and undo these screws. Clean with cloth, new gasket, put back..

I went through the gears a few times with the cover off, and it seems not to go up into 3rd. the mechanism is strange but I guess it works when engine is running.

well my phone got stolen last night, pick-pocketed...

anyway that means I dont have pictures, but the filter was clogged, 2-3mm layer of shiny oil sludge, with tiny bits of metal in it round the edge... Since the bolts were untouched I dont think its been cleaned before..!

It seems much better now, gear changes smoother, and it can now actually go into neutral while running! this caught me out a couple of times at junctions today!

At 70-72mph (very long hill!) the engine starts getting very very loud, rev limiter?
Idk if its vibration or something else, but Im going to be careful not to rev it that much.

It lost two foot peg bolts, and 1 exhaust nut, and some others were lose, there are some more lose bolts I can hear but cant see!

lmao pretty epic that you got it up to 72,no wonder bolts were falling off

could i just go through that centrifugal filter again

empty oil, take off exhaust, footpegs, undo clutch cable(what happens to the thing the cables connected to?)

then take off the clutch cover and the centrifugal filter should just be there with like 4/6 bolts you undo ?

cheers

yes thats mosty it, but the important points are

make sure everything is clean, engine/cover, surrounding frame, your garage... whole side of engine is exposed, unlike a normal filter..

Get some spare screws. they are very tight, and being cross head, 9/10 will round off.

clutch cover, and filter gasket. The old one will not be in one piece afterwards. Wemoto has set for £15.. I made cardboard copies for next time :p

let the *cleaned* clutch cable dangle over the open engine, it wont go anywhere, it slides out easily from the engine cover.

Also cleaning the filter, the inner cone part, theres a lot of hidden dirt in there hidden down the side of the bolt.

its M5 screws you need. screwfix had no stock...

https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Screws+Fixings/Machine+Screws/Countersunk+Machine+Screw+M5+x+40/d90/sd910/p99692

they are cheaper, but 40mm long you need to cut to length...

Same gasket set.

My oil strainer on the other side was quite chewed up. £3.70 from honda parts desk, needs to be ordered in tho...

Today I had a closer look at the used oil, there was a peice of thin copper, Im guessing this is another part of the neutral switch :O

bike has a lot of harsh vibrations, I cant find any more bolts that ened tightening up though.
I know the drive chain is lose, and I think at max adjustment, so I might buy that.

*How can I test the engine bearings are good? *

Also my clutch and brake levers feel really lose. I noticed they cant be tightened up, they have a good 3mm of up/down movement, should I change them? - it looks like they are designed like that........

thanks

So got new brake and indicator switches to install tomorrow.

The engine noise is only at some rpms. it lasts for about 5mph in 4th. and theres about 5mph after before it starts losing power (about 65). Any ideas?

Im going to get a chain/sproket kit. The chain is lose and at max adjustment... so what is best?

https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Honda/CG_125_BR-K/91-94/picture/Chain_and_Sprocket_Kit_-_Kyoto_Heavy_Duty/

or other? I know there are a lot of different types.

Whichever is cheaper, Its got 10 bhp maybe 11 on a good day so I don't think heavy duty is really needed.

I asked for a good one for my CG and the guy at the shop got me an IRIS, I keep it oiled and its fine even though they have a dubious reputation on more powerful bikes.

(Out of the 2 you have linked, DID for me)
