Thinking a pit/monkey bike, there's an idea I hadn't considered!

How much does one of them things cost to insure?

Rope round the tyre for fresh snow, but an H100 this year instead of the MZ

As I'm happy with the size of my penis, I'll probably be warm, comfortable and upright in my car.

Mines not road legal. No point in the snow surely.

I did have a monkeybike on the road. Third party that was about 180 a year for me.
Otherwise a pitbike, tpft is about 250-300. Bit more because they are rare and unusual bikes.

If I've actually got a job, either GSXR1000, or I've got an extra 200 studs to add to my already-studded dirt tyres to stick on a KTM if it's particularly bad Smile.

I WON'T be using my fiddy, even if I get a road legal pit bike frame, because I'll probably end up underneath a lorry, mobility carriage, etc Smile.
Or possibly my sand/soft mud tyres which I got for weston if there's loads of fresh stuff - but they get absolutely mullered on normal road Sad.

I'm in the process of getting my CG roadworthy. So if all goes to plan it'll be on the road in the next month or so.

It'll be my only form of transport and I'll ride it all winter.

Thumbs Up

I'll be working from home.
Or I might take my car out in the snow and bend something like the Mrs did last year. Got a nice selection of hire cars to play with while they fixed it!

Most likely the XJR 400 as long as the motor gets a decent bill of health over the next couple of days. Not the smallest bike but it's surprisingly light, should be even easier on the snow and ice than the GS was.

I am also happy with the size of my penis, I will be warm, comfortable and (hopefully) upright, just on two wheels. Driving isn't an option for all of us!

I've done snow, I've done blizzard, It's not big or clever it is tretcherious and deadly. BTW I'm not talking little bit or snow on side roads I'm talking a thick covering and main road worse than an ice rink.

Hills, forget about it, coming down them I have a 100% rate of shitting my pants, once dropping the bike once sliding down with the bars at full lock right and the front wheel facing forward and the left peg on the floor. Somehow kept this up (more luck than judgement)

I say walk or get the train you can times any journey length by about 6 with heavy snow. ON the way home from work in a blizzard one time I saw 4 bike crashes on the road. Not the aftermath, I actually saw 4 bikes crash.

I've learn now it just isn't worth it.

Just put it round the tyre, then round the rim and tie it off - move a few inches round and repeat - it will wear out within 5miles on clear tarmac, but brilliant for fresh snow.

[edit]

When I did it it was on an MZ with a fully enclosed drive chain and sprockets - not sure how safe it is with an open chain

I'll be getting my car back from the GF and using that. She can walk or get a lift with me and be an hour early Thumbs Up .

Are small bikes better in the white stuff than big ones? Presumably easier to chuck around and generally fitted with less slick tyres?

Last year there were about 6 days where I physically couldn't ride.

The trains were a fucking nightmare! I think the shortest was about 3 hours, the longest was about 4 and a half. Twice I had to give up half way due to delays and cancellations.

My commute was 45 miles and took around an hour to ride usually, even when the snow slowed me down it never took more than an hour and a half.

I prefer small bikes to ride through winter - the H100 weighs under 100kg so is easy to keep up on ice. Wearing a pair of snow cleats at the same time makes you unstoppable!

They crash better plus tend to be easier to pick up afterwards Wink

Seriously though, I went over in a car park last year on the GS, only damage was a few scuffs on the engine casings and a slightly bent bar end, if I'd have done the same on the ZX9 I'd have likely ruined one side of the plastics, probably take off a lever or footpeg and maybe even crack/split the exhaust if I was particularly unlucky. I know which one I'd rather have a mini off on Smile

I prefer using a 600 to a 125 I have used both and the 600 handles it better.

I ride my bike to work as I do not have a full car licence.

I never missed a day of work due to the weather.

Just allow more time to travel to and from work.

I live on a slight incline and when the big snow happened early this year I had no mission of getting the 125 out. I doubt I'll be able to get the storm out without dropping her at least once so it'll stay locked up when it snows. Luckily enough I now work closer and its flat so I'll probably walk.

My XJ was a nightmare in the snow. Not to say it handled that badly, but the weight just seemed to make me very nervous.

I came off on it on some black ice last winter and to be honest it would have happened no matter what bike I was on as I could barely even stand up on the ice. I think the main thing is just to use a bike you don't mind smashing up. Thumbs Up

Also, ride as slow as you want and ignore the cars behind you that you are holding up. I might even take my mirrors off if I go out in the snow.

The year before last I had to call my mate to help me pick up the GPZ as it was too icy to do myself.

Also SIDI Vertigo's don't make for good winter boots!
