My friend has a '99 600 gixx,

Restricter is a washer in the carbs.

He has come to the end of his restriction, how would we go about getting it out... As he can't afford a proffesional to do it.

Was hoping for a little more detail but that'll have to do.

Sorry there isn't a lot more to it tbh Confused

Except, you may have to remove the seat to lift the tank, pull off a hose or two from the tank and unscrew the carb fixings to be able to lift them off.

If he can afford it, get a haynes. It will have detail about removing the carbs and you will see the washers. Just oik them out with a screwdriver and reverse!

Have you considered the possibility that the jets could've been changed as part of the restriction?

Hmm.

If so, what problems would this occur?

It would change the fuelling, but I very much doubt they have been changed, likely hood is 4 washers under the carbs.

Well, id've thought not changing it back would make it run too rich or too lean, depending on what was changed (i can only speak for the CB500, but i can tell you that if the restriction has been done properly - i.e. the jets changed to the BIGGER #125 size - then failing to change them back would mean the derestricted machine was running too rich).

Have a look at this thread I did a while ago:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=193237&highlight=anyone+confused+fit+restrictor+kits

Its for a Bandit but if its washer restricted youll get the general idea about where everything is.

My mate had a CBR 600 which wasnt rejetted but it had slides in the carbs to prevent the diaphragm opening fully so could look for that aswell.
