More detail about your back problems probably worth it.
For instance, a sports bike seems to be better for my lower back (as the impact doesn't travel straight up it.)
However, I found that when wearing my Caberg helmet on sports bikes it gave me upper back pain - took me a couple of months to work out it was the heavy flip lid and I'm fine with a lighter Shoei.
You can stick higher/wider bars on most bikes. You could consider this for your current bike too.
You can make most bikes sound loud if you want - my c90 sound pretty meaty with an open pipe . |

the yamaha fazers are great sit up bikes, ive got an fzs 600 and i have problems with sciatica. this bike never gives me any back trouble however the gsx-r i have does lol
try them out or a bandit would be good. anything where your natural posture can remain would be a good start. honda cb's yam fj's bandits kwak z1000 etc anything with tall bars instead of clip ons is a good one to look for. try and get to a dealer with loads of used bikes, have a sit on loads of them see what feels right. ____________________

As G says, it depends on your back. He doesn't do impact for example, whereas I don't do standing up for long periods, and I prefer 'sit up and beg' type bikes for my back.
I did read a letter in a magazine a few years ago saying that a man with a bad back bought a VFR800 and after riding it for a bit was almost completely cured, but he didn't think the NHS could stretch to buying a VFR for all patients with acute back pain! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

FWIW when I mentioned my bad back and it not liking sports bikes quite a few different people said to try the Triumphs (can't remember actual model now though).
Might be worth sitting on one or two and seeing about a test ride?

Thanks for all the reply's. It has certainly given me food for thought.
I quite like the idea of an Africa Twin or a Triumph tiger but have to take into account the fact I have midget legs
I saw a post on here a day or two ago where you could size up a range of bikes but can't remember the topic name or find it anywhere ____________________
