Greets fellow two wheelers, I know there has been a post similar to this before, however I've been filling up at Morrisons for years Sunday Just gone I pull up to the pump and before I can grab the nozzle this girl shouts over the loud speaker that I got to remove my helmet. So I just gave her the middle finger and rode off.

Now my point is and I'. not being racist or anti anything here but if someone pulled up in a car got out wearing a burqa would they be asked to remove it. I dont think so.

So I think it's time to preassure these places to stop discriminating against motortcyclists.

What are your thoughts?

I think that there should be a 99p coin, it's so annoying getting 1p change all the time.

I'm in 2 minds on this one. I grew up in belfast and there was always signs saying to remove helmets so it was common place. It was automatic to remove the lid before filling up and paying.

Since moving over to england land I've not seen a single sign and talking to a lady behind the counter one day was surprised I took my lid off and informed me that most dont and she does find it intimidating.

I think if your filling up at the pay and pump service then theres no need to remove the lid but if your going into the check out to pay then its curtesy to take the lid off.

As for the burka comment.... They should all fuck off and wear the same clothes we all wear because if we go to their country we have to live by their laws!

It's a scam to make you put the penny in the charity can by the till. They look like Oxfam cans, but I bet if you check the tiny, tiny writing it says something like "all proceeds go to the staff fag and booze fund".

The day of my test I filled up at Morrisons, and it was one of the only times I didn't bother to take it off.

They seemed fine with it. Though, it is a very popular station being on the 'way home' from people at work from Cardiff, so I assume alot of bikers use it

Morrisons do however have a great deal on half price Champagne at the moment. Limited to three bottles per customer though. I don't drink the stuff but the wife and my sister do, so bought a couple of cases ready for the xmas binge.

Sod any petrol station that wants me to go through the hassle of taking my lid off then having to touch my lid with petrol hands.

I save them a power trip and always use the pay at the pump.

If i was going to rob the petrol station and they asked me to take my lid off do they honestly I would say..............Hang on a minute while I remove my lid before robbing you!

It's very simple, Petrol stations get robbed because of their greed. Why do you need a shop at a petrol station, so they can sell you more Middle Finger . On the continent and some stations here all they have is like an secure booth and the just pay there through a slot......problem solved. If i wanted drink/food/porno mag then i'd go to the shop Thumbs Up

To prevent drive off.....pay before you pump....simples

My local Asda on the other hand has just had a refit and I can't find stuff easily in there. I did get the cat his favourite crunchies though, at 95p (instead of £1) they were a bargain, so I bought 6.

I bought one box of sugar puffs at tesco and got two free. I was very happy.

I also bought a four pack of beans and got 2 packs free. I was very happy.

I now eat beans and sugar puffs.

Isn't it funny that when you eat sugar puffs your wee smells like them. But with the beans aswell, I think it makes alcohol.

Does the pay at pump use cash? Or is it card only?

Card only, no where to store cash in the machine (security risk). IIRC Asda is one where they leave the pay at pump lanes open so you can get 24 hour fuel.

He's 16 now, and has no teeth. These keep him going for ages, as I think he just dribbles on them, and when they are soft enough he can mush them up. Bit like a fly really.

Whatever, they'll probably be more anti-biker now that you've stuck your finger up at them. Quite likely it's also confirmed to them that you were probably a petrol thief.

If you want to make a protest, do the whole burqa thing - ideally wear a head covering under your helmet when going to fill up there, or quickly put it on as you take your helmet off.

If i was going to rob the petrol station and they asked me to take my lid off do they honestly I would say..............Hang on a minute while I remove my lid before robbing you!

Presuming they are worried about you robbing petrol at this point; with your lid removed you've now got your face on CCTV, so if you ride off you're similarly identifiable to most car drivers.

Right, because the rozzers are falling over themselves to investigate and prosecute £15 drive-offs by people who have used fake plates to hide their identity...

I do take my helmet off when using pay-at-the-counter, because it's polite to do so. Then again, I can't really be arsed with it, and do a lot of ride-throughs when the pay-at-the-pumps are all full or bust. There's always another 30 miles in the tank. Very Happy

No need really now winter is here.
A standard thermal/silk motorcycle balaclava that you'd normally wear under the helmet.
Some can look more menacing than others

Look more like a bank robber in them anyhow.

It's the same old story. If I'm going into the kiosk I will take my helmet off. It's only polite to take it off when you're going to speak to someone, and it does cause many station staff a bit of anxiety when someone walks in with their helmet on. Plus, I always feel really clumsy when I'm wearing my helmet inside, I feel like I'm going to bump into everything!

To avoid it I always fill up at a local station with pay at pump, it's so much easier and I can keep my helmet on. Saves a lot of hassle.

I was just thinking the other day that we haven't had this age old thread for a while. I spoke too soon.

I take my helmet off at petrol stations regardless of them having a sign or not. I'm fucking gorgeous and everybody deserves to look at me. Wink

Must be the OP looks real dodgy. As I fill up every week at Morrie's and have never been asked to remove my lid Thumbs Up

Why is it every time someone posts one of these threads the Burka gets dragged into it....
I have never seen anyone fill up wearing one....

I just don't use Morrisons for petrol for the bike full stop cos last time I did there was "something" in it that immediately caused the bike to start dropping onto 3 or even 2 cylinders as I rode home. Sad

I had to drain my carbs when I got in, there was a fair bit of water in there and when it hit the warm engine casings there was also something that evaporated leaving a white crystally subtance on my engine. Shocked

So no, don't care if they want me to take my lid off or not cos I don't trust their petrol after that........

Taking your lid off isn't anywhere near as irritating as filling up at a petrol station only to realise that there is actually half a supermarket in there so you're forced to wait behind a queue of people getting their weekly shopping tilled up by a single slow-coach when all you want to do is pay for £10 of unleaded. Evil or Very Mad

For me though, the Islamic head-dress argument falls into the "I'm not a racist but...." category, the full face version is really rare compared to others and I can't think of any cases where a petrol station was held up by somebody who was wearing one. The same can’t be said for full-face motorbike helmets.

A business has the right to enforce a policy like this, and you have the right to take your custom elsewhere without ranting about Muslims.

i have to wonder weather you live in an northern mill town? in certain areas i wouldsay nearly 40-50% of people wearing head scarves like burkas wearthe full face ones, i do take my lid off if im going in but only if its not too much hassle. burkas are rude and an unfair thing, you arent allowed to wear your hood up in the trafford centre in manchester... your asked to leave, burka? no problem.

end of the day if you cant see someones face it does give you less information about them that we are used to getting when we meet someone, makes you wary.
