Technically you have had an accident and are required to stop / report it to the police as soon as practicable within 24 hrs.
Bearing in mind how easily modern cars break and how expensive mirrors can be (£350 for my C4) I would just report it at the nearest police station and see what happens. The chances are he has your index unless you pulled away like a traffic light tart.
On the other hand you could always stay stum and see what happens and risk the consequences
If it was my driving licence I wouldn't ____________________ Current ride - Yamaha MT-07 |

If it goes that far then your get out clause at police station / court will be that you knew that you had hit the mirror but as you attempted to find somewhere safe to pull over you saw a raving madmad in the car behind flashing his lights, tailgating you. waving his fists and shouting obsenities.
You wanted to stop but feared for your own safety because of the way he was behaving being especially vunerable on a bike.
Then of course you reported it to the police as soon as possible, your honour ____________________ Current ride - Yamaha MT-07 |

Thanks guys... To be honest aswell, the pillion on the back was a big factor in me not stopping too, she was younger than me, and a confrontational situation isn't good at the best of times, and its not something I wanted to get her involved in...
The reason why I swerved too, was in part to a van coming in the opposite direction, now I've played this situation over and over in my head, and I'd be absolutely ready to say I thought the overtake was fine when I committed to it, but then if he reported it he could well play the card of dangerous driving. The van came a little closer than expected and out of reflexes more than anything, possibly he created a bit of a draft, I clipped the mirror |

I have plenty of knowledge in this area, don't mention the van.......especially as you were then overtaking into oncoming traffic.
You were filtering alongside the car when your inexperienced pillion moved suddenly causing the bike to change direction and you clipped the mirror of the car despite your best efforts ____________________ Current ride - Yamaha MT-07 |

Thanks ok, I guess the pillion moved would be good to say too although I don't want to get her into trouble! To be honest I'd like her as least involved as possible... For her sake!
If I report it, and the other driver doesn't, seeing as I don't have his reg will anything further happen? |

I'm with the "how the fuck did you get that close" school on this one.
On a long straight?
I could understand it if you were whitelining a bit fast in heavy traffic, but on a long straight...
You need to reconsider HOW you're riding, matey. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Happens all the time to me, in town
I just smile nicely and say "oo sorry baby", and hope that it helps that I have lipstick and big tits. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

I can vouch for the very loud sound it makes,
twice in town (I think twice) where I have done some close filtering on the SV I've clipped mirrors.
First time shat me up and just sped away as quickly as poss.
The second time, I pulled in a few cars ahead and couldn't really see the car (It was a BMW!), then two police motorcycles appeared... thankfully they just filtered passed... so I followed them.
Both times I didn't hear a thing, but the bang is very loud. Also both times they didn't even move my mirror, no visible damage etc. |

I bent a white vans mirrow with my shoulder to a point it was facing forward and I just rode off.
I felt guilty later on.
Then about a week ago I hit another mirror and this time I decided to stop. The driver did a thumbs up and gestured to ride off.
I like being good Minh ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

I'm generally a very very careful rider, but although in black and white it sounds bad, and I'm pretty sure to some people it sounds a very bad maneuver, but it is something at the time I did judge, anticipated the whole situation (minus the knock and) the van on the other side of the road getting THAT close. That said I am looking out at forking out for advanced training, and will triple check each overtake from now
On the reporting side, I decided to go in, and report it, said I'd be happy to pay for any damages, and I didn't stop because I panicked and felt intimidated by his response, ie coming up behind me flashing his lights etc... If he reports it I'll get a phone call (Which I would have done anyway, just hopefully this time it'll be a lot more friendly than it could have been), if he doesn't I'll hear nothing more of it . They were most friendly and helpful, said because I had given a reason for not stopping, and had come in and reported it within my 24 hours, no more should be said about that bit of it.
I genuinely was just passing him because he was traveling at below the speed limit and holding me up, once I'd passed him I resumed the speed limit... And then he sped up!? Hate it when people do that! |
