The bike had been running reasonably well with only minor issues with indicators flashing too quickly and slightly spongy suspension.

However I went out to it the other day and it won't start at all! Below is a list of things relevant (I think) to hopefully give me an idea what to do next:

- The bike is turning over nice and quickly
- I've checked for a spark by taking the spark plug out and that seems to be fine (spark plug itself is only 2 months old)
- I thought it was a fueling issue so I took the carb off and cleaned it up (tbh it looked fine inside)
- Checked that fuel was getting through and it definitely is
- air filter is a month old and I've tried starting it without the air filter

So if i've got spark and fuel what else could be wrong? The bike was running absolutely fine before it did this.

Stupid pile of crap is doing my head in now. HELP!

first off id get a new plug, just because a plug is firing out of the cylinder doesnt mean it is under compression,
next i'd be doing the valve clearances, super easy job on a rocker arm ohc honda engine, you'll need a set of feeler guages, (a couple of quid from halfords)
next i'd check the timing (perhaps in conjunction with the valve clearances) and make sure the tensioner has tensioned the cam chain correctly

try that if its still not running properly then we'll go from there

Will get a new spark plug, tis a pain as broke atm! Might do it after the other two hoping that it is something else.

Ok cool, i've done the clearances in the past so should be able to do that although getting to them is a pain!

How do i check the timing? Do I need a timing light?

Its electronic timing, I had no worries with that over 21,000 miles.

Have you checked it got good compression?
Stick the choke on, set it to reserve and hold the throttle open and try the starter.

If it fails, try bump starting.

Haven't checked the compression, is there any easy way without a gauge?

I've had no end of problems with it, quite tempted to get rid. I'm meant to be using it for my Mod 1 on the 8th of Nov Sad

Finally managed to get some time to fix this over the weekend. Turned out to be the plug which was really annoying as I'd recently bought one of the fancy iridium ones not so long ago.

Also stripped the carb and got a refurb kit for it, seems to be running ok now....but for how long?!?!

Cheers for the help.

i wasn't talking about ignition timing, i was talking about the timimg of the cam in relation to the crank,

any way, good stuff about the plug,
keep a spare with the bike along with a spanner, incase it happens again Thumbs Up

Yep will do! Why would a spark plug fail?
