 Posted: 22:33 - 18 Nov 2010 Post subject: MCE insurance being a pain! |
 |
|
So, basically I've been with MCE for 9 months, so only 3 months to go. I wanted to change bikes the other week, so rung them to get a quote and was quoted only for an admin fee of about £30. No problem, sounds good, I'll go and buy it.
So I have!
Rang them up Tuesday to get it swapped over and due to Aviva being slow, they would give me a ring back in 5/10 minutes. I waited an hour and rang back, was told they would ring me back very shortly. Waited 3 hours and was getting fed up, rang back and was told it could take up to 48 hours.
Quite annoyed, but if aviva is having problems, it's not MCE's fault. So I waited 48 hours and still no call. Rang back and the guy dealing with it was on lunch and would ring me back when he returned. 3 hours later I get a call and am told it would now be £180 for change bike.
I tell them this is ridiculous as I was quoted £30 and would not have bought the bike if this was the case! She says it was a new employee giving me a false quote, obviously I wasn't happy and asked if there was anthing she could do, after her speaking to her supervisor, they could waive the admin fee...so it's still £150.
I told her I wasn't happy, but have paid it as I needed the bike insured as don't like leaving it in the garage un-insured, and in 3 months I will have another years NCB.
I intend on writing a letter to them, my original policy was for a Daytona 675 which is 2 insurance groups higher than my current bike, and it was only £400 for the whole year. £150 is rediculous.
Anyone got any advice?

Change your provider next year. Not much else you can do really now you've paid. Just lodge a complaint. ____________________ My Flickr |

its always worth writing, companies have big budgets for 'good will' gestures. just be firm but fair about it when you write the letter and you never know. ____________________

Tell them that you want to get through their dispute process as quickly as possible so that you can get on with reporting them to the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau. I'm pretty sure that win, lose or draw, that'll cost them a lot more than £150. |

funny how different people say different things about different co's (all the usual suspects though, coincidently)
i have fell out with both mce, bennets & ebike (& im sure a few others, lol)
but its DEFINATELY worth writing a letter to their customer relations manager & even better if you have the name of the clown that mis-informed you.(or lied, as is usually the case, they'll tell you anything to get the commission)
even after you have been shafted, they have your money anyway, so anything now is a bonus, right?
i tend to write decent letters (typed of course) full of the legal terms & phrases they do not like to hear (i work in a govt dept that deals in this kind of dispute & my work mates are a great source of help, lol) mention the ombudsman, legal advice etc & set them a deadline.
always say you want a copy of their complaints procedure, always set a deadline & if they start implementing "admin fees" theres nothing to stop you doing the same.
i now charge £35 per letter, (after the 1st one, in which i outline my fees- all perfectly legal) this tends to get a speedy response.
as you can gather i hate most ins. co's with a passion, they are staffed by liars & incompetents & hide behind "terms & conditions" without a thought for the real world.
screw them at every opportunity, they WILL do it to you.
ALWAYS overvalue your bike, (they will usually undervalue it) always get the name of the monkey your speaking to, take a note of the time etc (its amusing to hear their response when you say "i foned at xx:xx & spoke to "whoever", "thats the clown that lied to me"
pretty sure they have a file on me now,lol
cheers,
GAZ |
