hello,

just wondering if anyone can tell me what is causing this on my Sym Jet Basix

When the bike is cold, starts perfectly.
But if you ride somewhere, park up for 5 minutes and try to start it again it just will not do it (on kick or electric)

when the bike is going, and i pull up to a traffic light the idle just gets lower and lower then eventually cuts out then it will not start again. (ive tried to higher the idle speed but still doesn't have any effect on it cutting out)

waiting to pull out of a junction, give it throttle, it moves, then the engine sounds "dull" and no power is being kicked out, then it cuts back in again and then rides normal

if anyone could help me on this i would be very grateful

Firstly I'd give your carb a clean and stick a new plug in it unless it has had one very recently. If it has a fuel filter check that it's clean and if not replace for the sake of a few quid.

Don't know that ped but if it has a choke check it isn't stuck on. Also what is your battery like? give it a good charge to see if that makes any difference

Did the problems start with the new plug and battery?

Change it anyway as just because it's newish doesn't mean it's ok. Get a proper NGK one and give the battery and good charge.

check that the automatic choke is functioning properly as it could be constantly on, this would be indicated by excessive smoke and a sooty sparkplug. Change your plug first and if the problem persits check the choke operation and all the electrical connections from the carb.
