Wow. Never ridden through this stuff before.. new experience Shocked had to keep scraping my visor as it would ice up every 10 seconds or so, my gloves had frozen ice on, as did my jacket. Was really odd. Made sure the engine was warmed up nicely to stop carb icing Laughing be careful out there guys.

I rode from my home in Southampton to Winchester a couple of weeks ago and had the same problem. The visibility was about 3 metres in places and pretty clear in others, we had to be really careful. Ended up riding most of the way with my visor open due to steaming and icing up. It didn't help that it was about 10pm and my low-beam blew...this was before I replaced my rectifier.

Yep, pretty much a fucking nightmare. Doing 70 with my visor down and had to ride with one hand so the other could wipe the visor. Decided it was safer (if much less comfortable) to ride on the motorway with the visor up. So glad to get my car back.... How long until spring again?

I get it regular going over the Pennines on the A66.

I have a set of wrap-around shades with clear lenses for just this reason. They get just as clagged up but you can still see because they are closer to your eyes.

Had a similar visor problem riding in to work last night....
Luckily, the visibility most of the way was about 30 yards, so I just kept the speed down, and the visor up.
Had to defrost my fingers and my face when I got in to work, even tho' it's only a 20 minute ride

It's worse when you wear specs. You lift the visor when wiping it no longer does anything and your specs ice over as well. You end up riding with your specs on the end of your nose, following the tail lights of the vehicle in front because you can't see too well (if at all).

Yay for cars. Laughing

I used to have one of those rubbery polyurethane jackets. Totally waterproof and they don’t absorb water at all. However that did mean that in damp, freezing conditions it could build up quite an impressive layer of ice. I arrived at work once after a ride through freezing fog, got off the bike and there was the sound of smashing glass as all this thick ice tumbled off my jacket. I didn’t even realise it had built up.

Was the same here on Sunday night heading to work. Visibility in Portsmouth was about 20 meters if I was lucky and after a few minutes I had given up trying to see out of a closed visor and rode with it open. Freezing cold and tears running down my cheeks but I could see a tiny bit better.

Every car at a junction I was praying had seen me and wouldnt pull out.

Stay safe out there in this weather folks. Its a nightmare

I came through some the other evening. I wondered why my already laughable candle headlight was getting even dimmer...and it was because there was a layer of ice covering it Shocked Nasty stuff, and pretty rare in the south too.

Hi

Freezing fog is something I have managed to avoid for years. Last time was between Portsmouth and Winchester. Visor became useless to see through. Then glasses did the same.

Not something I miss at all.

All the best

Keith
